Ms. Maritel N. Rodriguez, fondly called with her nickname "Tetel" could have followed the familiar script. But this Early Chilhood Care and Development Monitoring Officer of CSWD’s District 2C chose a different path-one that flips tradition on its head while nurturing the next generation.
Ma’am Tetel, who started at CSWD in November 2013, spends her days ensuring Cagayan de Oro get a vital early support. At home, however, she lives what she teaches.
At present, Ma’am Tetel with her fellow staff of CSWD’s ECCD Program assesses child milestones with the ECCD Checklist, observes daily activities, reviews health records, and spots developmental gaps. She supervises Child Development Teachers and Workers via site visits and reviews every six months, ensuring health, nutrition, and education services align with RA 8980 standards—and reports progress to keep programs strong.
Beyond her pivotal role in shaping young lives through the ECCD Program, Ma’am Tetel channels the same dedication into her home, where she navigates the joys and challenges of being a provider in a non-traditional family dynamic.
In a family of five, she is the breadwinner, her husband stays at home with their children-10, 8 and 4 years old. It’s a role reversal that bucks the norm, where women tend the hearth and men bring home the bacon.
“Our set-up works because we trust each other. “ Ma’am Tetel said in a recent interview. “While I work to meet our family's financial needs, my husband shares an essential role in the daily care of our three children."
The same spirit fuels her advocacy: teaching children respect, responsibility, and kindness starting in the family.
“Values are formed at home spread out to the community. That’s how we build a better future.
As Ma’am Tetel reflects on balancing her demanding ECCD role with her trailblazing family dynamic—providing as the breadwinner while her husband nurtures their three young children—she draws from a wellspring of faith and resilience that defines her journey.
Her words of wisdom, offered freely to fellow parents, professionals, and community builders facing daily trials, cut through the noise with timeless clarity.
“Be grateful for what God has given you. Ask His guidance in your plans and challenges. Keep pushing forward- you can take breaks but don’t quit. Most importantly love your family deeply.”
Her story is a quiet revolution. In an era of rigid expectations, she proves that flexibility, faith, and family love can write any narrative- for parents, professionals, and communities alike.
Through faith-fueled grit and unconventional love, Ma’am Tetel nurtures tomorrow’s leaders—one child, one family, one community at a time.
