Empowering Local MSMEs through Product Assessment and Consultation

DTI Misamis Oriental conducted the 2026 Product Clinic: Assessment, Consultation & Triage (ACT) on October 7, 2026, at Northern Mindanao Food Innovation Center (NMFIC) Building, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines, Cagayan de Oro City.

The activity aimed to evaluate and enhance the quality, branding, packaging, and overall market readiness of local products through specialized technical guidance. By connecting entrepreneurs directly with key experts and industry resources, the session provided essential support to help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) optimize their product standards and navigate market demands.

Through focused one-on-one consultation sessions directly with Product Packaging Designers, NMFIC experts, and Intellectual Property Office (IPO) consultants, alongside guided NMFIC facility tours, local MSMEs received personalized feedback on product design, intellectual property registration, and food technology innovation to boost product standards, market competitiveness, and long-term business growth.

The Cagayan de Oro City Price Coordinating Council (CDOCPCC) discusses possible measures on local meat supply, pricing, and consumer protection during its 3rd Quarter Meeting on October 6, 2026, at the DTI Misamis Oriental Conference Room in Cagayan de Oro City.

Chaired by CDOCPCC Co-Chair Atty. Jose Edgardo Uy, with Vice-Chair and DTI Misamis Oriental Provincial Director Jesusa M. Abear, Councilor George Christopher Goking, Committee Chair on Trade and Commerce, Councilor Maximo Rodriguez III, Committee Chair for Consumer Protection. Relevant agencies in attendance - DA-AMAD 10, BAI and NMIS 10.

Discussions focused on local meat supply and pricing concerns in Cagayan de Oro, including possible measures for the Council to consider that may require further review and coordination. The council also discussed Consumer Welfare Month activities and ways to strengthen consumer protection efforts.

📖🧠 Building stronger business foundations through practical entrepreneurship skills

DTI Misamis Oriental conducted a Business Learning Session for 38 members of the CARD-MRI Development Institute, Inc. on September 29, 2026, at Demiren Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

The session covered Entrepreneurial Mind-setting, Business Name Registration Orientation, and Basic Pricing and Costing, providing participants with practical knowledge on developing an entrepreneurial mindset, understanding the business name registration process, and applying basic pricing and costing techniques.

Through the activity, participants gained useful insights to support better business decision-making, improve operations, and strengthen their capacity to establish and sustain their enterprises.

📖💰 Strengthening entrepreneurial and financial management skills of Tagoloan vendors

DTI Misamis Oriental, through Negosyo Center Tagoloan, conducted an Entrepreneurial Mind-setting and Cashflow Management Workshop on October 5, 2026, at the OSCA Office in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental. Thirty-one Muslim vendors from Tagoloan, beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), participated in the session.

The activity equipped participants with practical knowledge on entrepreneurship and basic financial management, including the proper management of business income and expenses, separation of personal and business funds, and maintaining sufficient cash flow to sustain daily operations.

The session also encouraged participants to transition their livelihood activities into more sustainable and growth-oriented enterprises by adopting sound financial practices, making informed business decisions, and strengthening business resilience.

Business Learning Session for Market Vendors and MSMEs of Medina! 🛍️📚

On September 29, 2026, DTI Misamis Oriental, in partnership with our resource institutions and the Local Government Unit of Medina through its Negosyo Center, conducted a Business Learning Session in Medina, Misamis Oriental, with 26 participating market vendors and MSMEs. The session covered Customer Service, Sanitation, SB Corp Loan Programs, and Tax Registration, Filing, and Compliance, providing participants with practical knowledge to improve their business operations and customer service.

Through initiatives such as this, DTI continues to support the growth and development of MSMEs by providing access to relevant information, capacity-building opportunities, and government support programs—helping local entrepreneurs become more competitive, sustainable, and better equipped to grow their businesses. 💼✨

CWM 2026: Strengthening Partnerships for Informed Consumers and Fair Markets

The Consumer Welfare Month 2026 Launching and Media Briefing on October 1 at Ororama Supercenter Cogon, Cagayan de Oro City, opened with a Partners’ Appreciation recognizing institutions and organizations that have continuously supported DTI Misamis Oriental’s consumer welfare programs and advocacy initiatives.

Certificates and tokens of appreciation were presented to partners involved in the Diskwento Caravan Program, Adopt-a-Barangay Project, Cagayan de Oro City Price Coordinating Council (CDOCPCC), Local Price Coordinating Councils (LPCCs), Misamis Oriental Retailers Association (MISORRA), and Consumer Advocacy Initiatives.

The recognition highlighted the important role of strong partnerships in bringing consumer programs closer to communities, promoting responsible business practices, and strengthening mechanisms that protect consumer rights and welfare.

The activity was followed by a Media Briefing, which brought together government agencies, local price coordinating councils, retailers, consumer partners, and other stakeholders to discuss current consumer concerns and ongoing efforts to promote fair and responsive markets.

DTI Misamis Oriental OIC–Provincial Director Jesusa M. Abear, Councilor George Christopher Q. Goking, Chair of the City Council Committee on Trade and Commerce, and Atty. Jose Edgardo Y. Uy, Co-Chair of the CDOCPCC, reaffirmed their commitment to consumer protection, price and supply monitoring, and coordinated action on consumer concerns.

Private-sector representatives Ivy Dan Pengson, President of the Misamis Oriental Retailers Association (MISORRA); Katherine Guazon Caresma, Assistant Vice President and Marketing Manager of Ororama Supercenter Inc.; and Herchel Tutor, Store Manager of Ororama Cogon, also shared their commitment to regulatory compliance and to upholding consumer rights and welfare. They likewise represented MISORRA’s member retailers in the discussion.

The panel also included Edmar C. Pabia, representing the Gingoog City Price Coordinating Council.

Under the theme “Safe Products, Confident Consumers,” the activity emphasized how sustained collaboration among government, businesses, local councils, and consumer groups helps build a safer, fairer, and more responsive marketplace.

🛡️ SAFE PRODUCTS, CONFIDENT CONSUMERS

As part of the Consumer Welfare Month 2026 Launching and Media Briefing, DTI Misamis Oriental, in partnership with Ororama Supercenter Inc., opened the Safe Products Showcase on October 1 at Ororama Supercenter Cogon, Cagayan de Oro City.

The showcase features consumer products bearing the Philippine Standard (PS) Mark and Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) Sticker, helping consumers become more familiar with product safety markings and make more informed purchasing decisions.

It also provides information materials on minimum labeling requirements and consumer rights and responsibilities, giving shoppers practical guidance on what to look for when buying products and how to make safer and more informed choices.

Through initiatives like this, DTI continues to promote consumer awareness while working closely with business establishments to strengthen product safety, regulatory compliance, and responsible retail practices.

The activity forms part of this year’s Consumer Welfare Month celebration with the theme “Safe Products, Confident Consumers.”
