For babies, breastmilk serves as the building block of proper nutrition, as it contains essential nutrients making it the best food for them. Breastmilk is beautifully customized to the particular growth and developmental requirements of a baby, offering macronutrients, vitamins, and minerals as well as other trace elements, and even antibodies. Thus, infants are assured of a quality maternal milk as the breastmilk changes dynamically, conforming to the infants changing immunological and nutritional requirements.

Additional benefits of breastmilk to child are the following:
โ— Breastmilk contains antibodies which revamp the infant's immune system. These antibodies help protect the infant in opposition to viral infections and defense against harmful bacteria.
โ— Breastfeeding nourishes the gut with optimal bacteria colonies, which helps in reducing infections and colonization of pathologic microbiota. It all adds up to a really well-run digestive system and contributes further in keeping the infant healthy.
โ— The immune factor and the nutritive value found in breastmilk contains bioactive elements (human milk oligosaccharides, lactoferrin, immunoglobulins, dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids, and essential microbes) that bestows nutritional support of the neonates.
The act of breastfeeding renders its broad benefits to the mothers as well.
โ— Breastfeeding causes the body to produce a hormone called oxytocin, that reinforces the uterus to contract and restore to its pre-pregnancy size. This natural course can promote postpartum healing.
โ— It encourages close physical contact between the mother and the infant, a skin-to-skin interaction that reinforces their emotional bond which positively affects maternal mental health. This intimate link also acts as a preventive aspect counter to postpartum depression.
โ— Breastfeeding promotes economic-cost value to lactating mothers, as it is readily obtainable and free.
โ— It has an innate contraceptive effect called the Lactation Amenorrhea Method (LAM) for lactating mothers, specifically those who exclusively breastfeed for the first six (6) months.
โ— Lactating mothers bear less the likelihood of acquiring health-risking diseases that may impose serious health threats like: Breast Cancer, Type II Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, and, Ovarian Cancer.

All in all, the breastmilk and breastfeeding tandem promotes positive mutual gains for both the mother and the infant as it imparts complex benefits which signifies an important milestone towards an enhanced quality of life. The affectionate experience of the mother and child can be a catalyst for both psychological and emotional growth, building a promising root for a healthy, lifelong relationship. Attain the ideal nutrition during the First 1000 Days through breastfeeding!
