The Technology Promotion and Commercialization Office (TPCO) successfully spearheaded a crucial conference on "Intellectual Property Management and Technology Transfer" last November 28, 2025, at the NHotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

Conducted in partnership with the IECEP (Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines) Northern Mindanao Chapter, the event effectively equipped engineers, researchers, and business professionals with practical strategies to leverage Intellectual Property (IP), directly contributing to the region's innovation capacity.

With the theme "Building Innovation Capacity for National Productivity and Competitiveness," the TPCO-led program featured expert-led sessions that provided attendees with actionable knowledge on using IP as a driver for technology transfer and sustainable growth.

Key sessions curated by TPCO included Strategic IP Management for Engineers, Patentability Analysis and Innovation Structuring, and frameworks for Technology Transfer and IP Commercialization, all designed to transform research and ideas into valuable commercial assets.

"TPCO was proud to empower the innovation ecosystem in Mindanao through this event," a TPCO representative stated. "Our partnership with IECEP Northern Mindanao provided professionals with the essential tools to protect their inventions and accelerate their journey from the lab to the marketplace, which will undoubtedly fuel future economic development."

USTP Panaon pitch Technology during RSTW 2025

A team from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) in Panaon, Misamis Occidental, participated in the non-competition Technology Pitching for Licensing and Adoption event during the Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) celebration held at the Bayfront Arena in Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental.

The USTP Panaon team, comprising Mary Cris J. Gemoros, Christopher R. Balaba, Jed Anthony A. Ceballos, and Ms. Mary Jane A. Moralia, successfully presented their research titled "Composition for Producing Charru Mussel (Mytella strigata) Kropek Enriched with Turmeric (Curcuma longa)." With the tagline "Crunch for a cause, flavor without a pause," the presentation showcased a creative and sustainable solution to the ecological challenge posed by the over-proliferation of the invasive charru mussel. By transforming this marine pest into a protein-rich, value-added food product, the team addressed both environmental concerns and food innovation, integrating the health benefits of turmeric into a marketable snack.

Ms. Mary Jane Moralia, serving as the lead presenter, effectively communicated the technology's potential for commercial adoption and its relevance to community-based livelihood programs. The pitch received positive feedback from evaluators and attendees, underscoring the team's commitment to science-driven solutions. USTP Panaon's participation in RSTW marks a significant milestone, demonstrating how research and innovation can be harnessed to create purposeful, impactful technologies.

Engr. Gladdy Christie Compasan discussed a comprehensive overview of IP fundamentals, emphasizing its critical role in technology transfer and innovation-driven entrepreneurship. Meanwhile, Ms. Noreza Aleno guided the participants through the IP application process, outlining key requirements, procedures, and associated fees.

This initiative forms part of the University’s continuous efforts to nurture innovation and empower student-led ventures through IP education.

𝐈𝐂𝐘𝐌𝐈 | The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Alubijid, Misamis Oriental (USTP Alubijid), sparked a new wave of creativity and collaboration through the Convergence 2025 held on May 30, 2025, at USTP Alubijid. It was a showcase of ingenuity where innovation, commercialization, and entrepreneurship intersect. Spearheaded by the Research, Innovation, and Extension Section, in partnership with and full support of the Technology Promotion and Commercialization Office (TPCO) and the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (CET), the event brought students and ideas together under one bold vision. With the theme “A Synergy of Innovation, Commercialization, and Entrepreneurship,” this convergence featured three signature activities that highlighted student talent and forward-thinking solutions.
