🌽 Twenty-seven (27) seed inspectors and agricultural personnel from Region IX-BARMM, including representatives from the National Seed Quality Control Services (NSQCS) Regional Laboratory, Municipal Agriculture Offices (MAOs), and focal persons from the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office, successfully participated in the, Training Course on Open-Pollinated Variety (OPV) Corn Seed Production and Certification for Seed Inspectors held on May 18–22, 2026 at DeLuxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

The five-day training aimed to provide in-depth knowledge and enhance the capabilities of seed inspectors in effectively carrying out their functions and delivering quality technical services to seed growers. Participants were oriented on their duties and responsibilities for the proper implementation of the seed certification program and were equipped with the latest knowledge and technologies related to OPV corn seed production and certification.

The training methodology combined lectures, visual presentations, and hands-on activities covering essential topics such as seed testing, field inspection and certification of OPV corn seed production, status of corn program implementation in the region, harvest and post-harvest handling, varietal selection and characteristics of NSIC-approved varieties, seed sampling, bagging and tagging, and the vital role of seed inspectors in ensuring seed quality.

A practical demonstration on seed quality testing was also conducted, allowing participants to perform various quality attribute assessments using actual seed samples. This hands-on experience further strengthened their technical competence and confidence in conducting seed inspection and certification activities.

Through this training, participants are now better equipped to uphold the standards of the National Seed Quality Control Services (NSQCS), contributing to the production and distribution of high-quality OPV corn seeds that will support increased productivity and sustainable agricultural development in their respective regions.
