The RJJWC-X Secretariat successfully conducted the Orientation on the Salient Features of Republic Act No. 9344 (Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006), as amended by Republic Act No. 10630, Protocol in Handling CAR & CICL, Diversion Program, the use of JJMIS and Formulation of the Comprehensive Barangay Juvenile Intervention Program (CBJIP), for the 13 barangays of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Impasugong, Bukidnon.

The activity aimed to equip barangay officials with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively implement child-sensitive interventions, strengthen diversion and prevention programs, improve juvenile justice data management through JJMIS, and develop evidence-based CBJIPs that address the needs of children within their communities.

Through continuous capacity-building and collaboration with our local partners, we move closer to creating safer, more inclusive, and child-friendly communities where every child is protected, guided, and given opportunities to thrive.

The monitoring team was composed of representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development - X, Child Representative, BCPC of FS Catanico, Cagayan de Oro City, Public Attorney's Office (Valencia City District Office), Department of Justice - X (Office of the City Prosecutor - Valencia City, Bukidnon), and Philippine Information Agency - Bukidnon Office.

This visit aimed to assess the facilities through a holistic perspective to ensure that the needs of children - particularly their health, legal rights, developmental progress, protection, psychosocial well-being, and mental health - are being effectively addressed. A comprehensive evaluation enables the formulation of appropriate and holistic recommendations in line with Republic Act No. 9344, as amended by RA 10630.

This initiative reaffirms RJJWCโ€™s strong commitment to upholding the rights, protection, and overall welfare of every child under its mandate.

JJWC Statement on the Shooting Incident at the Ateneo de Zamboanga
University Junior High School

We are deeply saddened by the shooting incident at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior High School, which claimed the lives of two children.

As authorities work to put together the details of what happened, we want to be clear that these were children. Their privacy, dignity, and their familiesโ€™ privacy must be protected at all costs. Their identities and personal circumstances should not be unnecessarily disclosed or circulated.

We ask the public, the media, and everyone to exercise real restraint and care in reporting and sharing information. Sensationalizing a tragedy like this by sharing names, photos, videos, or other identifying details only adds to the pain already felt by the families, students, and community affected by this incident.

We urge everyone to refrain from disseminating unverified information and allow the proper authorities and the school to address the incident to ensure the safety of the students and the community. School safety and the protection of our students remain paramount, especially in the face of such a traumatic event.

Our deepest sympathies are with the families of the students, their classmates, teachers, and the entire Ateneo de Zamboanga University community.
