Strengthening Accreditation Through LGUโ€“DOT Collaboration

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region X continues to strengthen its partnership with Local Government Units (LGUs) in advancing tourism standards, accreditation, and quality assurance across Misamis Occidental.

Three important accreditation activities recently highlighted the value of strong LGU collaboration:

๐Ÿ“ August 6, 2026 โ€“ Public Hearing on the Accreditation Ordinance, Oroquieta City
The public hearing served as an important avenue for dialogue and collaboration in strengthening local policies that support DOT accreditation and responsible tourism development.

๐Ÿ“ August 6โ€“7, 2026 โ€“ Accreditation Assessment and Inspection, Aloran, Misamis Occidental
The conduct of assessment and inspection demonstrated the shared commitment of the LGU and DOT in ensuring that tourism establishments meet the required standards for quality, safety, and service.

๐Ÿ“ Accreditation Inspection and Awarding of Accreditation Certificate, Ozamiz City
The inspection and awarding of accreditation certificates recognized establishments that have taken steps toward compliance and excellence, strengthening the confidence and trust of tourists and the local community.

More than compliance, accreditation is a shared responsibility. Through close coordination between the DOT and LGUs, tourism establishments are guided toward continuous improvement, while the public is given greater assurance that accredited establishments uphold recognized standards.

Northern Mindanao is experiencing elevated heat index conditions. The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC)-10 advises all LGUs, government agencies, private institutions, and the general public to prepare and take precautionary measures due to the prevailing and forecasted heat index in parts of the region.

DOST-PAGASAโ€™s Laguindingan Station in Misamis Oriental recorded a heat index of 42ยฐC on August 12, 2026, and forecasts a heat index of 43ยฐC on August 13 and 14. With these conditions, everyone is urged to stay hydrated, remain in shaded or cool areas, and limit strenuous outdoor activities, especially during the hottest part of the day. These simple precautions can help prevent heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and other heat-related illnesses.

For visitors exploring Northern Mindanao, travel remains welcomeโ€”but do so responsibly. Plan outdoor activities during cooler hours, take regular breaks, drink plenty of water, and choose shaded or well-ventilated places whenever possible. There is much to experience across the region, and taking care of your health along the way will help make every adventure safer and more enjoyable.

In case of an emergency or if you need assistance, contact the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) of your respective LGU. Stay informed, stay hydrated, and take the necessary precautions as we continue to enjoy the many destinations of Northern Mindanao.
