MAYOR KLAREX, CITY HALL EXECS WELCOME MAYORS TO CDO FOR MEETING

CAGAYAB de Oro City hosted the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP)’s 83rd National Executive Board (NEB) Meeting and first ever Mindanao Cluster Consultation on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, this city.

Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy personally welcomed the National Executive Board members led by its National President: Mayor Francisco Javier M. Zamora (San Juan City) and Mindanao-based city mayors.

In his speech, Mayor Klarex expressed his heartfelt gratitude to LCP having been trusted to host the 83rd National Executive Board (NEB) Meeting and first ever Mindanao cluster consultation.

“We are proud to host this 83rd National Executive Board Meeting and Mindanao
Cluster Consultation. We hope that the same spirit and camaraderie and that shaped Cagayan de Oro City through every challenge and opportunity manifest itself throughout this event as we, my fellow Mayors, work together to continue and push forward with bigger and most bigger and most ambitious collaborations, support cities into the forefront and become the exemplars of effective governance,” said Mayor Klarex Uy.

Highlighted at the Mindanao Cluster Consultation were updates on the Mindanao Cities' Concerns including the 2026 Barangay and 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), Funding and Implementation of the Mindanao Railway Project (MRP), Enhancing Maritime Connectivity and Inter-Island Transport in Mindanao, Requirements and Process for Conversion into a Highly Urbanized City (HUC), Autonomy of Component Cities in the Delivery of Social Services
and Role of Cities in Promoting Energy Efficiency and Sustainability.

CHILD-FRIENDLY CDO: A MAYOR’S COMPASSION THAT KNOWS NO BOUNDARIES

IN Cagayan de Oro City compassion goes beyond recognition as Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex' Uy continues to extend a helping hand to children and families in need, even to those who call another place home.

This was once again highlighted during the Children’s Hour at the 83rd National Executive Board (NEB) Meeting and Mindanao Cluster Consultation of the National League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP), held Wednesday, October 20, at the Limketkai Luxe Hotel, this city.

During the gathering, Mayor Klarex presented the Leukemia Patients and Parents Organization (LEUPAPO) as the outreach beneficiary of this quarter’s LCP-NEB meeting before the Mayors from across the country.

For LEUPAPO founder Reczel Clarabal, the Mayor’s continued support is a reminder that genuine compassion does not ask where a person comes from before offering help.

‘Kung tinud-anay ang imong pagtabang sa imong isig katawo, wala'y rason nga dili ka tabangan sa Ginoo,’ Clarabal said.

Though he is not originally from Cagayan de Oro, Clarabal lived in the city for 10 years and has never felt disregarded by Mayor Klarex.

Instead, he said, he has consistently extended support to their organization and its patients, regardless of their place of origin.

‘Pasalamat kaayo mi mga ginikanan ug pasyente nga naa diri kay wala nagmatter sa Mayor kon diri ra ba ka sa Cagayan de Oro naggikan o sa asang dapit. Thankful kaayo mi sa kinabuhi ni Mayor ug sa uban na gusto pa magsuporta sa amo,’ Clarabal said.

For the children and their families, such support means more than financial assistance. It is the reassurance that they are not alone in their fight, and that there are people willing to stand beside them through difficult days.

LEUPAPO, which initially served children with leukemia, has since expanded its assistance to patients with other conditions, including Hydrocephalus, Down syndrome, Cerebral palsy, and Anemia.

During the activity, the children received care kits from the LCP-NEB and enjoyed a free magic show.

The Mayor’s support for LEUPAPO, however, extends beyond the occasion. He personally purchased the land in Bulua where the organization’s facility now stands, helping provide a place where patients and their families can seek assistance and support.

He also shoulders the processing fees for blood donations coursed through the Philippine Red Cross and extends financial assistance to help address the patients’ needs.

PIKOL TA UY TOURNAMENT GUIDELINES

AS we kick off the first-ever Interdepartment Pickleball Tournament, all participating players are reminded to attend the opening ceremony this afternoon (Oct. 21) at the City Hall Quadrangle in their official team uniforms.

Each team must also bring its official team banner, following the prescribed specifications.

Attendance is mandatory, and failure to comply with the requirements may result in disqualification from all tournament games, subject to the applicable tournament rules. Let’s keep the games organized, smooth, and exciting.

Players are reminded to follow their assigned court and game schedules, arrive at their designated waiting areas at least 30 minutes before their scheduled matches, observe table and chair assignments, practice discipline and sportsmanship, and keep their areas clean.
