Things to look at in a statistical survey
1. Sample Size
The sample size of a population will be used as a predictor of the traits of a whole. Having too small a sample size could inaccurately portray the traits of the whole.
2. Sampling Technique
The sampling technique of the survey is an important detail as it also affects the result as a whole. Showing the methods of a survey is thus important as it tells how people were chosen to be part of the survey.
3. Access to the Survey
Access to the survey is also important as it may misrepresent the opinions of the whole. For example, if the survey was done digitally, people who have no internet will have been unrepresented.
4. Bias Recognition
Bias may also affect the result. An example is sampling bias where survey participants may be concentrated on a certain area. Having a bias could mean that the survey only represents that certain area. It could also be affected by sponsorships by certain groups with a given agenda, which would be deceitful to all.
5. Survey Uses
Just because a survey presents a result does not mean that the survey is true. Be critical of every statistical survey as it may have detrimental effects and may come across as deceitful or misrepresentative.
So before one says 60%, 60% of what? Voters in Manila? 2,500 voters in a Baranggay? Just because a survey says 60%, it doesn't mean 60% of the Philippines.
