Every October, the whole nation observes Consumer Welfare Month, a celebration that champions the rights and responsibilities of every Filipino consumer. It is anchored on the principle of protecting consumers and ensuring fair trade practices in the market.

This annual observance also commemorates the passage of the Consumer Act of the Philippines (RA 7394), which serves as the cornerstone of consumer protection in the country. Through this law, consumers are guaranteed access to safe products, honest services, and fair treatment.

In line with this celebration, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Agusan del Norte, in partnership with LABAK Butuan Community and the City Government of Butuan, will host the 2025 Community Fun Run and Walk x Car-Free Sunday. The kick-off event will be held on October 5, 2025, at the City Hall Grounds, Butuan City.

Everyone is invited to join this meaningful celebration! Let us come together to promote consumer awareness, enjoy a healthier lifestyle, and celebrate the power of being a well-informed and protected Filipino consumer.

LOOK: DTI Negosyo Center RTR Conducts Monthly Price Monitoring to Strengthen Consumer Protection

On September 18, 2025, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Agusan del Norte, through the Negosyo Center RTR, conducted its monthly price monitoring activity in the municipality of Remedios T. Romualdez to safeguard consumers against unfair pricing practices.

In line with R.A. 7581, or the Price Act of the Philippines, the Negosyo Center RTR regularly monitors the prices and supply of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs). These price monitoring reports serve as the basis for addressing concerns on profiteering and as price references in the event of a declared state of calamity or emergency.

The monitoring was led by Ms. May Kimberly Mandas, Senior Business Counsellor of DTI NC RTR, together with Ms. Yna Eddesa Zerna, staff of Negosyo Center RTR. They visited three grocery stores—D & L Twins Store, NKF Store, and Che-Che Store—as well as two hardware and construction supply establishments, Hwaya Trading and EJ Trading.

DTI Negosyo Center RTR remains dedicated to regularly overseeing the prices of essential goods, commodities, and construction materials in the municipality. These price monitoring reports serve as a proactive measure to maintain fair market practices and ensure that consumer rights are continuously protected.

The 2025 Competitiveness Index para sa Bagong Pilipinas—formerly known as the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI)—has officially commenced its annual cycle. To support this year’s rollout, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Agusan del Norte spearheaded a series of Competitiveness Index Program (CIP) roadshows across the twelve (12) cities and municipalities of the province.

During the sessions, DTI presented an overview of the CIP, emphasizing its five (5) Competitiveness Pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure, Resiliency, and Innovation. The activity also featured the three-year comparative presentation of the Local Data Capture Sheet (LDCS) and ranking results, giving Local Government Units (LGUs) a clearer picture of their overall performance and competitiveness trends over the past three years.

Through these roadshows, the participating LGUs expressed their continued support for the program and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a more comprehensive and accurate data gathering and validation process. These initiatives are considered vital further improve their competitiveness, leading to better rankings and a stronger standing among local government units nationwide.

DTI Negosyo Center RTR Represents DTI-Agusan del Norte in Barangay PESO Focal Orientation

R.T. ROMUALDEZ, Agusan del Norte – The Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO) successfully conducted a one-day Barangay PESO Focal Orientation on Roles in Employment Facilitation and Livelihood Program Implementation last August 27, 2025 at the 2nd Floor, RTR Public Terminal, Poblacion II, Remedios T. Romualdez.

The activity gathered Barangay PESO focal persons from the different barangays of the Municipality of RTR, with the goal of strengthening their capacity by equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to promote employment opportunities and implement livelihood and labor programs in their communities.

Representing the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)–Agusan del Norte, Senior Business Counsellor May Kimberly Mandas of Negosyo Center RTR served as one of the resource speakers. She shared valuable insights on entrepreneurship development, livelihood opportunities, and DTI programs that support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

This collaborative initiative underscores the importance of inter-agency partnerships in promoting inclusive growth, empowering communities through sustainable economic opportunities, and strengthening employment facilitation and livelihood implementation at the barangay level—ultimately contributing to the overall socioeconomic development of the province.
