Our team was originally set for a field visit today in Brgy. Mandus, Lingig, Surigao del Sur to see the inspiring community efforts under Project LAWA (Construction of Small Farm Reservoir and Tilapia Farming) and Project BINHI (Community Vegetable Gardening and Fruit Tree Growing). 🌱🐟
But just as we arrived at the site, the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that struck the Davao Region this morning, October 10, 2025, was strongly felt here in Caraga. The tremor immediately placed us on high alert, prompting swift coordination with concerned agencies and local government units.
Right there in the field, we had an emergency meeting with the management committee, DRMD and SWAD Team Leaders (ADN, ADS, SDS, SDN and Dinagat Islands) to give directives and ensure quick response and assistance for those who might be affected.
Once everything was managed and stabilized, we continued with our site visit because the people of Lingig exerted extra effort and made preparations for this activity.
Once done, we travelled back to Butuan City from Surigao del Sur and we are currently working overtime here at DSWD Caraga, continuously monitoring and ready to serve.
