A total of 17 Butuanon Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) received ₱50,000 each through the Department of Migrant Workers’ (DMW) Aksyon Fund, providing immediate financial support to help them recover, restart, and build a more stable future after their return to the country.

The City Government of Butuan (CGB) facilitated the processing of assistance for eligible beneficiaries, ensuring that returning OFWs were properly guided throughout the application process. Through close coordination with DMW, the city helped connect qualified individuals to the program, allowing them to access the support intended for migrant workers in need.

This initiative reflects the city government's commitment to not only providing immediate relief but also creating opportunities for long-term economic recovery, empowering returning OFWs to establish sustainable sources of income and successfully reintegrate into their communities.

Creating opportunities that extend beyond the classroom, the City Government of Butuan (CGB), through the City Employment Services Department (CESD), continues to empower students by connecting them with meaningful employment opportunities.

Through its partnership with National Book Store and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), CGB facilitated the summer employment of two students, enabling them to earn additional income for their studies while gaining valuable workplace experience.

Jude Crispin Napata and Simon Kit Napata were employed from May 18 to June 22, 2026, and assigned to the National Book Store branches at SM City Butuan and Robinsons Butuan, where they developed practical skills and firsthand exposure to the world of work.

For Jude, this opportunity marks his second time benefiting from the summer employment program.

“𝘽𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙨 𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣 𝙖𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙢𝙮 𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙚𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙫𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚,” Jude shared.

Simon likewise expressed his appreciation for the chance to work while preparing for the next academic year.

“𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙂𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝘽𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙮𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮, 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙝 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙙 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙫𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚," Simon said.

Through programs and partnerships that open doors to employment, the City Government of Butuan, through the City Employment Services Department, continues to empower students and jobseekers to take meaningful steps toward their goals. For Jude and Simon, what began as a summer job turned into an opportunity to gain valuable experience, build confidence, and support their educational journey.
