The People Unite to Guard Aqua Marine Wealth (PUGAW) is a vibrant community of seaweed producers and farmers dedicated to protecting the aquatic resources of Surigao del Sur.

Leading their transformative efforts is Manager Bonifacia Bughao, a strong advocate for environmental protection and conservation. She understands the vital connection between people and nature.

"There is a significant link between environmental protection and our livelihoods. By conserving our mangroves, we ensure that our seaweed farms flourish because mangroves filter out the debris that enters our farms. When our livelihoods prosper, so does our membership," Bughao explains.

Drawing their livelihood from the sea, PUGAW emphasizes a sustainable approach to seaweed production, reinforcing their commitment to preserving the environment.

Through PRDP-supported initiatives, rural development helps improve access to opportunities, support local enterprises, and contribute to more resilient agri-fishery communities.
