Job seekers gained vital information and practical guidance to help them make informed and safer decisions in pursuing overseas employment opportunities. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Caraga, in partnership with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Remedios T. Romualdez (RTR), Agusan del Norte, conducted a Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar (PEOS) and Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Trafficking in Persons (AIRTIP) orientation on August 25, 2026. The activity was held at the 2nd Floor Public Terminal Building in RTR, Agusan del Norte, with 59 participants in attendance.

The seminar covered essential information on safe migration pathways, the advantages and challenges of working abroad, and the proper procedures for pursuing overseas employment. Participants were also oriented on the requirements and processes involved in seeking legitimate employment opportunities abroad.

As part of the AIRTIP discussion, participants learned about the common modus operandi and schemes used by illegal recruiters, including fraudulent job offers and unauthorized recruitment practices. They were also provided with practical measures to help them identify, avoid, and report illegal recruitment and trafficking in persons.

Serving as resource speakers were Atty. Marinelle Aycee M. Perral, Attorney III of DMW Caraga, and Ms. Apple Mae C. Tandoy, Officer-in-Charge of the DMW Agusan del Norte Provincial Office. They emphasized the importance of verifying job offers, following proper recruitment procedures, and transacting only with legitimate and authorized recruitment channels.

The activity strengthened participantsโ€™ awareness and preparedness in pursuing overseas employment by equipping them with the knowledge to recognize legitimate opportunities and protect themselves from fraudulent recruitment schemes. Through its continued partnership with PESOs and local government units, DMW Caraga brings its programs and services closer to communities, strengthens grassroots awareness on responsible migration, and advances its efforts to prevent illegal recruitment and trafficking in persons while promoting safe, orderly, and regular migration among aspiring Overseas Filipino Workers.

Thirty-three children of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) shared their experiences of having parents working abroad and the ways they cope with the challenges of family separation during a Capacity Building Program session conducted by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Caraga, in partnership with the Surigao del Norte State University (SNSU), on August 28, 2026, at SNSU. The half-day session provided a safe and interactive space for the participants to express their thoughts, learn from one another, and gain a deeper understanding of the realities of being part of an OFW family.

The program opened with Session 1: โ€œHomesick but Hopeful: Managing Loneliness & Emotional Gaps,โ€ facilitated by Ms. Princes Grace A. Retita, Assistant Professor IV and Guidance Counselor of SNSU. The session explored the emotional challenges that children of OFWs may experience, including loneliness and emotional distance, while introducing healthy ways to cope and maintain meaningful family connections.

This was followed by โ€œMy OFW Journey: Embracing a Global Family Reality,โ€ session facilitated by Ms. Anne Jane M. Hallasgo, Senior Labor and Employment Officer of DMW Caraga. The session gave participants a deeper understanding of the experiences of OFWs and their families, particularly the challenges and adjustments that come with having a parent or family member working overseas.

The sessions were complemented by interactive group activities, where the students were encouraged to share their thoughts, perspectives, and experiences. Through group work and discussions, the participants were able to reflect on their own experiences as children of OFWs while developing a greater appreciation of the importance of communication, empathy, and emotional support within the family.

The activity also provided a safe and engaging space for the students to connect with one another and recognize that the experience of having a parent work overseas can bring both opportunities and emotional challenges. The discussions emphasized the value of healthy coping mechanisms and maintaining strong family relationships despite physical distance.

Through the Capacity Building Program for the Children of OFWs, DMW Caraga continues to extend its support beyond migrant workers by recognizing the needs of the families they leave behind. The initiative seeks to equip young participants with greater awareness, understanding, and practical ways to navigate the realities of being part of an OFW family.

To strengthen coordination and ensure accessible and timely assistance to migrant workers and their families, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Caraga participated in the PESO Monthly Meeting of Agusan del Norte Province held on August 27, 2026, at Buenas Cafe, Brgy. Simbalan, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte.

During the meeting, DMW Caraga presented โ€œDMW Provincial Office: Integrated Functions and Referral Pathway,โ€ highlighting the role and purpose of the DMW Agusan del Norte Provincial Office in bringing DMW programs and services closer to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), their families, and prospective migrant workers.

The presentation discussed the integrated functions of the Processing, Protection, and Reintegration Division, as well as the referral pathway from Local Government Units (LGUs) and Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) to the DMW Provincial Office, and, when necessary, to the DMW Regional Office for appropriate action.

Ms. Apple Mae C. Tandoy, Officer in Charge of the DMW Agusan del Norte Provincial Office, led the presentation and emphasized the importance of a clear and coordinated referral process in ensuring that concerns of migrant workers and their families are properly addressed and directed to the appropriate office.

The activity was attended by nine (9) PESO Managers from Agusan del Norte Province, providing an avenue to strengthen collaboration between DMW and local employment offices and promote more efficient delivery of services to migrant workers and their families.

Moving forward, DMW Caraga and the Agusan del Norte PESOs will continue working together to strengthen referrals, improve coordination, and make migrant worker services more accessible to those who need them.

Providing jobseekers with easier access to legitimate overseas employment opportunities and essential government services, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Caraga joined the World Cafรฉ of Opportunities (WCO) โ€“ Job Fair and Service Caravan organized by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Caraga.

The activity aimed to connect jobseekers with employment opportunities while ensuring that those interested in working abroad receive accurate information and guidance on safe and legal recruitment processes. Through its participation, DMW Caraga also helped strengthen safeguards against illegal recruitment by monitoring participating licensed recruitment agencies (LRAs) and providing on-site assistance.

Held on August 25, 2026, at Robinsons Butuan, the activity featured a One-Stop Shop where Senior Labor and Employment Officer (LEO) Anne Jane M. Hallasgo represented DMW Caraga, providing participants with information and assistance on overseas employment opportunities, DMW programs and services, and safe and legal recruitment processes.

Meanwhile, DMW Caraga also participated in the WCO held on August 24, 2026, at the Surigao City Cultural Center in Surigao City, represented by Chief Labor and Employment Officer (LEO) Eval B. Makinano and Supervising Labor and Employment Officer Marissa A. Garay.

Through these engagements, DMW Caraga continued to bring its services closer to communities, empower jobseekers with reliable information, and promote informed decision-making among Filipinos considering overseas employment. The agency likewise reminded aspiring OFWs to verify recruitment agencies and job offers before applying or paying any fees and to seek assistance from authorized government offices to avoid falling victim to illegal recruitment and other fraudulent schemes.

The World Cafรฉ of Opportunities serves as a platform for government agencies, employers, and other stakeholders to converge and make employment opportunities, skills training, and essential government services more accessible to jobseekers across the region, while promoting safe, legal, and informed pathways to employment.
