Honoring Excellence in Literacy: Baan Km. 3 Earns 3rd Place in Butuan City BRC Awards 2025
Barangay Baan Km. 3 once again proves that a community united by a love for learning can achieve remarkable things.
Today, we celebrate with grateful hearts as our Barangay E-Learning and Reading Center (BELRC) is recognized as 3rd Placer in the Outstanding Barangay Reading Center (BRC) Awards 2025โa milestone built on years of hard work, compassion, and shared vision.
For more than a decade, our barangay has embraced literacy not just as a program, but as a mission. What started as a simple reading space inside the old barangay hall has now grown into a dynamic, modern, and community-driven learning hub that serves children, youth, adults, senior citizens, and out-of-school learners.
Under the leadership of our Punong Barangay, Hon. Gemma P. Tabada, guided by her mantra โGugma para sa Tanan,โ the BELRC has evolved into a symbol of opportunity and empowerment. With the collective effort of the Sanggunian, SK Council, volunteers, teachers, donors, and residents, the center has become a safe and inspiring space where curiosity thrives, skills grow, and dreams begin.
This award is a reflection of the programs and initiatives that bring learning closer to our people:
โจ Regular storytelling for children
โจ Reading programs for elementary and ALS learners
โจ Art, drawing, and creative activities
โจ Outreach literacy missions in remote schools
โจ IEC campaigns during the Unaw Festival
โจ Free ICT services, including computers, Wi-Fi, and printing
โจ Digital access through QR codes
โจ Volunteer-driven extended service hours
โจ Specialized reading spaces such as the Herbarium Area, Senior Citizens & PWD Shed, Outdoor Reading Park, and more
It is also a recognition of our commitment to sustainability: an institutionalized BRC resolution, annual budget allocation, a designated BRC focal person, and our official affiliation with the National Library of the Philippines.
Our new facility at the Green Buildingโrealized through the Congressional Fund of Hon. Jose S. Aquino II stands as a testament to our belief that every learner deserves a comfortable, well-lit, well-ventilated, safe, and child-friendly space to read and grow.
This award belongs to every volunteer who shares their time, every parent who encourages reading, every teacher who guides a learner, every child who picks up a book, and every Baanian who believes that literacy can change lives.
Barangay Baan Km. 3 will continue our mission with even greater passion. We remain steadfast in nurturing a community where education is accessible, lifelong learning is celebrated, and everyoneโregardless of age or status, finds a place to grow.
