The Philippines and Indonesia are advancing efforts to restore direct Davao–Manado air connectivity and Davao–Bitung shipping links through a strategic mission in North Sulawesi led by MinDA with DOT and DTI under the BIMP-EAGA framework. The initiative seeks to strengthen tourism, trade, and investment cooperation by building sustainable passenger and cargo demand and identifying complementary tourism and trade opportunities between Mindanao and North Sulawesi.

With the upcoming Mati Airport and proposed Mati–Tahuna route, Eastern Mindanao is likewise being positioned as a strategic gateway to Indonesia—supporting broader efforts to enhance Mindanao’s regional connectivity, expand economic partnerships, and reinforce the Philippines’ commitment to ASEAN and BIMP-EAGA integration.

The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) will implement a four-day on-site workweek beginning March 9, 2026, in support of the national government’s energy conservation initiatives.

Under this temporary special work arrangement, MinDA employees will report on-site from Monday to Thursday at the agency’s central offices on the 10th and 14th Floors of Pryce Tower, Bajada, Davao City, as well as its Area Management Offices in Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Koronadal, and Pagadian.

Fridays will be observed as a mandatory Work-From-Home (WFH) day for personnel.

Stakeholders are strongly encouraged to maximize digital communication channels during WFH days to ensure timely coordination.

This measure will remain in effect until further notice and supports the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for government agencies and government-owned and controlled corporations to adopt energy-saving practices amid rising global fuel and electricity costs linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

MinDA remains committed to responsive public service through both onsite and digital platforms.

The turnover of the Mindanao Youth Convergence Accomplishment Report is not just ceremonial; it marks a stronger, more strategic partnership between indigenous youth leaders and MinDA.

We’re talking real priorities: livelihood innovation through the Water-Energy-Food Nexus, digital access in ancestral domains, and climate resilience for our communities. When young leaders are given the platform, they don’t just participate — they lead.

Inspired by the Philippines’ maritime heritage, the ASEAN 2026 Philippines Chairship logo symbolises connection, cooperation, and resilience.

The woven elements, drawn from the traditional Balangay, represent many nations moving forward as one, distinct in identity yet united by shared aspirations for peace, prosperity, and ASEAN Centrality.

As the Philippines assumes the ASEAN Chairship in 2026, the logo captures a vision of a region guided by tradition, shaped by innovation, and inspired by unity, navigating the future together as one ASEAN Community.

Three key wetland ecosystems in Mindanao — Lake Mainit, Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary, and Sibugay Wetland Nature Reserve — have been formally recognized as internationally important sites for migratory waterbirds along the East Asian–Australasian Flyway. These wetlands serve as critical resting, feeding, and stopover habitats for migratory birds traveling vast distances. However, they face increasing threats from habitat loss, climate change, land-use conversion, and other pressures. Their inclusion in the network reflects growing regional and international cooperation to protect and sustainably manage these vital ecosystems under the broader framework of the flyway partnership.

The recognition of these sites aligns with ongoing conservation efforts supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and implemented in partnership with Philippine agencies. At the 12th Meeting of Partners of the East Asian–Australasian Flyway Partnership, the Philippines Flyway Project was launched with a $3 million grant — part of ADB’s Regional Flyway Initiative — to strengthen the protection, sustainable management, and restoration of priority wetlands including Lake Mainit and Sibugay, while also enhancing biodiversity, building local capacity, and supporting sustainable livelihoods and climate resilience for communities. As the lead coordinating agency for the Philippines in the BIMP-EAGA sub-regional cooperation framework, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) continues to foster partnerships like this with ADB and other stakeholders to further integrate sustainable environmental action into Mindanao’s development agenda.

Three wetlands in Mindanao were recently recognized as internationally important to migratory waterbirds along the East Asian–Australasian Flyway. This brings the total number of flyway network sites in the Philippines to seven and in BIMP-EAGA to six. These sites provide the birds a place where they can rest and eat. However, they face habitat loss due to a combination of factors, including climate change, pollution, sea and land-use conversion, sea-level rise, illegal mining, deforestation, and droughts.

The newly designated sites in the Philippines are Lake Mainit, Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary, and Sibugay Wetland Nature Reserve.

MinDA highlighted the strong results of the €35.5M EU-funded MinPAD-RISE Programme, reporting new farm-to-market roads, water systems, enterprise facilities, and strengthened cooperatives that cut travel time, ended waterborne diseases, and raised household incomes by up to 100%. Representing Sec. Leo Tereso Magno, Usec. Janet Lopoz emphasized that peace is made real through paved roads, clean water, and dignified livelihoods, reinforced by the launch of the Mindanao Development Tracker to guide evidence-based progress under the Mindanao Agenda 2023–2028.

Building on these gains, the EU and PH Government are introducing the €27M Partnerships for Peace and Development in Mindanao (PPDM) to further advance inclusive growth through good governance, normalization support, and the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus—where MinDA will lead efforts for IPs, IDPs, women, and GIDAs through farm learning hubs, renewable energy for agribusiness, and improved civil registration. The initiative aligns with President Marcos Jr.’s development agenda and reinforces a shared commitment to a more resilient, prosperous, and future-ready Mindanao.
