The DOST - Agusan del Norte officially commenced the three-day Smart E-Mobility System Commercialization Planning Workshop on June 1, 2026, at the Watergate Hotel, Butuan City, bringing together key stakeholders to advance sustainable transportation initiatives throughout the province.

Provincial Science and Technology Director Meriam B. Bouquia formally opened the activity and presented the rationale, providing participants with an overview of its objectives, significance, and expected outputs toward the development and commercialization of smart e-mobility technologies.

Participating in the workshop are representatives from the City Governments of Butuan and Cabadbaran, the Local Government Unit of Buenavista, national government agencies, and local fabricators. Their collective participation underscores a growing commitment to building an enabling ecosystem that supports the development, deployment, and adoption of e-mobility solutions at the local level.

During the first day, participants were introduced to the workshop objectives and expected outputs, setting the stage for collaborative discussions on the current state of e-mobility in the province. The discussions further examined the capacities of local fabricators, including available tools, facilities, and technical expertise, as well as their experiences. Through workshop sessions, stakeholders identified key operational challenges and capacity gaps that must be addressed to support wider e-mobility adoption and commercialization.

The insights generated from the workshop are expected to contribute to the development of strategic support mechanisms, programs, and partnerships that will accelerate the growth of the local e-mobility industry in the province.

Brydomz Poultry Farm OPC officially signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through its flagship program, the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP). The MOA signing was held at the DOST Provincial Office located at the CSU Campus, Ampayon, Butuan City.

Established in 2019 by Mrs. Noelyn S. Dominguez and Mr. Bryan Dominguez, Brydomz Poultry Farm OPC started with a single poultry facility capable of producing 45,000 broiler chickens. Through continuous expansion, the enterprise now operates three poultry houses with a combined production capacity of approximately 135,000 heads per production cycle.

To support the farm’s increasing operational demands and promote sustainable poultry production, DOST-SETUP approved assistance amounting to Php 5,000,000.00 for the acquisition of a 100kW Hybrid Solar PV System with Battery Storage. The technology intervention aims to reduce electricity costs, improve energy efficiency, and ensure a reliable power supply for essential poultry operations such as ventilation systems, cooling equipment, lighting, and automated production facilities.

In addition to the technology assistance, the enterprise will also receive science and technology trainings and technical consultancies from DOST to further strengthen its operational capabilities and promote innovation-driven growth in the poultry industry.

The two-day convergence of science, innovation, and regional collaboration commences tomorrow as delegates, researchers, scientists, and stakeholders across Mindanao gather for the 2026 Mindanao Regional Scientific Meeting (RSM), from May 19-20 at Hotel Oazis, Butuan City.

Hosted by the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in partnership with the DOST Regional Offices – Mindanao Cluster led by the DOST Caraga Region, the event carries the theme, “UN SDGs: Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development,” highlighting the role of research and innovation in addressing today’s environmental, economic, and social challenges.

The regional gathering will feature plenary discussions, research presentations, and scientific poster sessions, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among institutions and communities toward sustainable regional development.

The event aims to assess progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and foster collaboration among stakeholders.
The event will also be streamed live via Zoom and Facebook.

The Department of Science and Technology – Agusan del Norte successfully conducted the Site Visit and Assessment for the upgrading of the Bamboo Textile Fiber Innovation Hub into a Natural Textile Fiber Innovation Hub on May 11, 2026, in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte. This was held in support of the initiatives of Engr. Noel M. Ajoc, Regional Director of the DOST Caraga, and Meriam B. Bouquia, Provincial Director of PSTO–Agusan del Norte.

Moreover, the activity was carried out in collaboration with representatives from the DOST – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI): Jenneli E. Caya, Supervising SRS; Engr. Dave Brian T. Macabansag, SRS II; and Engr. Kent Melvin R. Gomez, SRS I.

Officials from the Provincial Government of Agusan del Norte, headed by Hon. Gov. Maria Angelica Rosedell M. Amante, and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Buenavista, represented by Atty. Juselle Tricia S. Roble, met with the team to discuss potential areas of collaboration and support for the ongoing natural textile fiber and sericulture initiatives in the province.

The activity was also attended by representatives from the Local Government of Buenavista, members of the Kapunungan sa mga Mag-uuma sa Simabalan Inc. (KAMASI), and members of the Dalao-an Farmers Association whose participation highlighted their continued support for programs that promote innovation, sustainable livelihood development, and the strengthening of the local textile and sericulture industry.

This underscores the continuing commitment of the Department of Science and Technology and its partner institutions in advancing research, innovation, and sustainable development in the local textile and sericulture industry. Through strengthened collaboration among local government units, and community stakeholders, the initiative aims to further promote the utilization of natural textile fibers while creating inclusive livelihood opportunities for local communities in Agusan del Norte.
