The event marked the culmination of the city's observance of National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2026, bringing together partner agencies and stakeholders in recognition of their collective efforts to strengthen disaster resilience and promote a culture of preparedness.

Throughout the month-long observance, DOST Agusan del Norte actively supported the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office's activities in celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month. As part of its contribution, the agency served as one of the members of the Board of Judges for the TALENTS for REALSilience competition, reinforcing its commitment to promoting disaster awareness, preparedness, and community resilience through collaborative initiatives.

During the culmination activity, DOST Agusan del Norte received a Plaque of Commendation in recognition of its exemplary service and valuable contributions to the CDRRMC's disaster prevention and mitigation initiatives. The award reflects the agency's unwavering commitment to advancing evidence-based strategies and fostering partnerships that empower communities to better anticipate, prepare for, and respond to disaster risks.

The recognition further underscores the vital role of science and technology in building resilient communities. The Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Provincial Science and Technology Office Agusan del Norte successfully conducted the Sensory Evaluation Training for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) on July 23, 2026 at Watergate Hotel, Butuan City.

The activity gathered food processing business owners and production staff from Agusan del Norte and Butuan City, providing them with valuable learning opportunities to strengthen their product quality and competitiveness.

Dr. Mariero Gawat a S&T Fellow of DOSTโ€“Caraga equipped the participants with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to effectively assess and evaluate food products using sensory evaluation techniques. Through comprehensive discussions and hands-on activities, participants gained a deeper understanding of key sensory attributes including appearance, aroma, taste, texture, and overall acceptabilityโ€”and their significant role in determining product quality, consistency, and consumer preference.

By enhancing the capability of local food processors in conducting sensory evaluation, DOST Agusan del Norte continues to support MSMEs in producing high-quality, market-ready food products and in improving their competitiveness in both local and wider markets.

The Department of Science and Technology Caraga, through the Provincial Science and Technology Officeโ€“Agusan del Norte (PSTO-ADN), successfully conducted the Training of Trainers on Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for sanitary inspectors of Butuan City on July 15โ€“16, 2026, at Watergate Hotel, Butuan City. The activity equipped participants from the City Health Department and the City Economic and Business Development Department with the knowledge and skills needed to strengthen food safety implementation.

Provincial Director Meriam B. Bouquia of DOST Agusan del Norte formally opened the training by presenting its rationale and highlighting the agency's partnership with the City Government of Butuan in strengthening local food safety systems through capacity-building. Ms. Dominga Mallonga, Science and Technology Consultant of the City Government of Butuan, emphasized the importance of food safety in protecting public health and supporting the city's Food Vendors Academy Program.

City Food Vendors Academy is a comprehensive, competency-based training program designed to professionalize nano- and micro-scale food vendors by strengthening their capabilities in food safety, financial literacy, customer service, regulatory compliance, and sustainable business operations.

Resource speakers Mrs. Rhea Santos-Laganga, Engr. Novi Kenn C. Lavisores, and Ms. Marie Kris P. Delarmente discussed key food safety topics, including personal hygiene, current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), food safety hazards, pest control, raw material handling, food contact surfaces, and the prevention of cross-contamination and product recalls. Interactive discussions reinforced participants' understanding and encouraged active engagement.

Through the training, sanitary inspectors enhanced their capacity to serve as food safety advocates and trainers in their respective offices. The initiative also reaffirmed DOST Caraga's commitment to supporting local government units in promoting food safety and protecting public health.

BUTUAN CITY โ€” The Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Agusan del Norte spearheaded the transition toward sustainable community transportation through the Smart E-Mobility Technology Forum on C-Trike and E-Trike Fabrication, held on July 7โ€“8, 2026, at Go Hotels, Robinsons Place, Butuan City.

The two-day forum gathered representatives from the City Government of Butuan, the Local Government Units of Buenavista, Cabadbaran City, and the Provincial Government of Agusan del Norte, particularly from their Planning Offices, Transport Offices, and partner fabrication groups. The activity served as a venue for strengthening collaboration among stakeholders and advancing the adoption of sustainable electric mobility technologies in the province.

On behalf of the Provincial Director of PSTOโ€“Agusan del Norte, Ms. Meriam B. Bouquia, Ms. Opie Mae Encabo, Science Research Specialist I, represented the office and formally opened the program, presenting the rationale of the forum, and reviewing the key outputs of the previous Smart E-Mobility Commercialization Planning Workshop conducted with the three participating LGUs.

The forum featured experts from the Cagayan State University โ€“ Electromobility Research and Development Center (CSU-EMRDC), led by Project Leader Engr. Michael B. Orpilla, who discussed electric mobility technologies, particularly C-Trike and E-Trike fabrication, as well as emerging innovations in the e-mobility sector. He was joined by Engr. Christopher R. Capili, who shared valuable insights on battery-swapping technology as an innovative solution for improving the efficiency, convenience, and accessibility of electric vehicle operations.

On the second day, the resource persons presented the commercialization and adoption pathways for electric mobility technologies, highlighting strategies for scaling up the deployment of C-Trikes and E-Trikes, strengthening partnerships among stakeholders, and supporting the integration of e-mobility solutions into local transportation systems.

Through this initiative, DOSTโ€“Agusan del Norte continues to promote locally developed e-mobility technologies, strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders, and support the development of a smarter, cleaner, and more sustainable transportation system for the province.
