Ang Butuan City Water District (BCWD) malampusong nakahuman sa pag-ayo sa nagtulo nga 900mm nga main transmission pipeline nga nahimutang sa Barangay Taguibo, Butuan City. Nahuman ang mga buluhaton sa pag-ayo niadtong Hunyo 18, 2026, alas 1:22 sa hapon, ug ang hinay-hinay nga pagpabalik sa operasyon sa transmission line gisugdan alas 1:29 sa hapon sa maong adlaw.

Isip kabahin sa mga kalihokan adiser sa pag-ayo, ang BCWD nagpahigayon og masusi nga pagpauga ug paglimpyo sa lugar nga giatubangan sa trabahoon nga nagtulo na tubo niadtong Hunyo 17, 2026. Gisiguro niini nga ang kanal ug ang palibot sa pipeline hingpit nga walay tubig ug walay pagsulod sa yuta o tubig gikan sa kanal.

Human sa dugang pag-ayo sa nagtulo na tubo, nagpahigayon og pagsusi sa linya diin namatikdan sa BCWD ang mabaga ug lapokon nga kolor sa tubig nga nakita sa blow-off point. Ang kasamtangang kahimtang usa ka normal ug gilauman nga resulta sa dagkong flushing ug restoration activities human sa dakong pag-ayo sa transmission line.

Padayon nga ginamonitor sa BCWD ang kalidad sa tubig ug ang kahimtang sa sistema samtang nagpadayon ang mga buluhaton sa pagpahiuli sa serbisyo. Posible nga adunay temporaryong pag-usab sa kolor sa tubig sa pipila ka mga lugar samtang nagpadayon ang flushing operations. Gitambagan ang mga konsumidor nga paagason una sa makadiyot ang tubig hangtod nga kini mahimong klaro sa dili pa gamiton.

ADVISORY
WATER STATUS UPDATE
(June 19, 2026; 2:00 PM)

The Butuan City Water District (BCWD) has successfully completed the repair of the leaking 900mm diameter main transmission pipeline located in Barangay Taguibo, Butuan City. The repair works were completed on June 18, 2026, at approximately 1:22 PM, and the gradual re-energization of the transmission line commenced at 1:29 PM on the same day.

As part of the pre-repair activities, BCWD conducted thorough drying and cleaning of the work site on June 17, 2026 before starting the repair, ensuring that the trench and pipeline area were completely dewatered and free from soil and trench water intrusion.

Following the completion of the repair, BCWD conducted an assessment of the pipeline wherein BCWD has observed a thick, muddy discoloration of water at the blow-off point. Due to the pre-repair activities conducted, it was determined that the discoloraiton is not caused by external contamination entering the pipeline. Instead, the discoloration is attributed to hydraulic scouring and sediment resuspension within the transmission main.

Hydraulic scouring occurs when the force of flowing water exceeds the resistance of accumulated materials inside the pipeline, causing settled sediments to become suspended in the water. In a large-diameter transmission line such as the 900mm main transmission pipeline, fine particulates naturally accumulate over time in low-flow areas and along the bottom of the pipe. During the gradual restoration of service and flushing operations, the increased water velocity generates sufficient force to lift these sediments back into suspension.

Due to the massive size and volume capacity of the transmission line, a significant amount of accumulated sediment may be mobilized simultaneously, resulting in a temporary thick, brown, and muddy appearance of the discharged water at designated blow-off points.

BCWD assures the public that the repair site remained dry throughout the operation, effectively eliminating soil and trench water intrusion as a source of the discoloration. The current condition is a normal and expected outcome of large-scale pipeline flushing and restoration activities following major transmission line repairs.

BCWD continues to monitor water quality and system conditions as restoration efforts progress. Consumers may experience temporary water discoloration in some areas while flushing activities continue. The public is advised to allow water to run briefly until it clears before use.
