𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: What type of business encompasses all industries, commercial enterprises, and value chains involved in the production, processing, distribution, and marketing of agricultural goods and natural resources?

𝐀𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫: Agribusiness

𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Agribusiness is a term coined from combining agriculture and business. It broadly refers to the economic sector encompassing all industries, commercial enterprises, and value chains involved in the production, processing, distribution, and marketing of agricultural goods and natural resources.

The agribusiness sector is generally broken down into three primary interdependent components:

1. Input Sector: This sector provides farmers and producers with the materials needed to run operations such as seed companies, fertilizer and pesticide manufacturers, agricultural machinery producers, and providers of irrigation systems or farm labor.

2. Production Sector (Farming): This is the core operations where raw commodities are grown or raised such as crop farms, livestock ranches, commercial fisheries, orchards, and forestry enterprises.

3.Processing and Distribution Sector: The network that takes raw agricultural commodities and transforms them into consumer-ready goods, moving them through supply chains to markets such as food processing plants, slaughterhouses, packaging facilities, transportation and logistics companies, wholesalers, supermarkets, and restaurants.

Unlike subsistence farming which focuses primarily on producing food for personal or local consumption, agribusiness is driven by commercial viability and profitability. It applies modern economic theories, financial management, logistics, and technological innovation to manage global food security and supply chains.

Notably as a result of government interventions, there are some Farmers Cooperatives and Associations (FCAs) have the capability in engaging across the three sectors mentioned earlier.

𝗖𝗖𝗔𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗗 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗥𝗦𝗧𝗪 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, 𝗕𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 "𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵" 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱

The Caraga Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (CCAARRD) showcased its commitment to regional innovation during the Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) 2026, held at Robinsons Place Butuan. Anchored on the theme "𝙄𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙎𝙚𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙮, 𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙀𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙮, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚," the three-day event highlighted cutting-edge technologies aimed at empowering the local sector.

Led by Consortium Director 𝗗𝗿. 𝗥𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝗠. 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘆 alongside the CCAARRD Secretariat, the team actively engaged booth visitors through dynamic exhibits and interactive learning sessions. The CCAARRD booth featured key agricultural and processing technologies, developed by its consortium member institutions (CMIs), including the Caraga Black Native Chicken from Caraga State University, FermaGrow from Surigao del Norte State University, and the Sago Pith Extracting Machine from Caraga State University.

To foster community engagement and public awareness, the consortium hosted "𝗖𝗖𝗔𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗗 𝗔𝘀𝗸𝘀," an interactive trivia game where visitors answered questions about the featured technologies to win exclusive tokens. The activity drew crowds, creating an educational experience for attendees.

The consortium's efforts culminated in recognition during the event’s closing ceremony, where CCAARRD was officially awarded 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵, acknowledging the team's presentation, visitor engagement, and seamless display of regional science and technology advancements.

The recognition reflects CCAARRD’s continuing commitment to bringing research and innovation closer to communities and creating meaningful avenues for the public to discover, understand, and appreciate technologies that contribute to food security, sustainable development, and regional resilience.

Through every exhibit, conversation, and interaction, CCAARRD continues to connect innovation with the people and communities it aims to serve.

CALLING ALL AGRI-FISHERY RESEARCHERS!

The 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 (𝗡𝗥𝗦) is open for paper submissions! Organized by the DA-Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), this year's theme is "R4D Excellence: Driving Progress, Delivering Impact."

We’re inviting Filipino scientists and researchers from DA units and attached agencies, state universities and colleges, and other government institutions under the DA’s National Agriculture and Fisheries R&D System (NaRDSAF) that conducts R&D work in agriculture and fisheries.

Eligible papers must feature work completed between August 2023 and August 2026.

The NRS culminates in the AFMA Research Paper Award, which recognizes researchers whose work has delivered impactful technologies, information, processes, or systems to the agriculture and fisheries sector.
