The Department of Tourism (DOT) Caraga Region, headed by Regional Director Ivonnie B. Dumadag, attended the second quarter Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) Meeting as the newest member on June 3, 2026, at the Grand Palace Hotel, Butuan City.

In a strategic move to elevate local governance and hospitality standards, the Department of Tourism (DOT) Caraga and the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Caraga joined forces on June 2, 2026, to explore a possible collaboration aimed at sharpening the skills of local tourism officers across the region.

This joint initiative is a critical component of DOT Caragaโ€™s preparations for the upcoming Caraga Tourism Summit, ensuring that local tourism frontline leaders are fully equipped with the competencies needed to drive the region's tourism boom.

During a courtesy meeting held at the CSC Caraga Regional Office, DOT Caraga Regional Director (RD) Ivonnie B. Dumadag and Assistant Regional Director (ARD) Tiara Julia Santos met with CSC Caraga RD Atty. Winston L. Plaza and ARD Atty. Christopher Mabale to lay the groundwork for the partnership.

By leveraging CSCโ€™s expertise in human resource development and public service excellence, DOT Caraga aims to institutionalize professional growth and service standards across all local government units (LGUs) in the region.

Also in attendance to anchor the strategic planning were DOT Caragaโ€™s Chief Tourism Operations Officer (CTOO) Junesther Jean Valdez and Supervising Tourism Operations Officer (SVTOO) Kylee Doreene Plaza.

With both agencies aligned, this partnership is set to create a more robust, professionalized tourism workforce capable of positioning Caraga as a premier, sustainable tourist destination in the country.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Caraga Region, in partnership with the Surigao City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office, successfully conducted the Tourism Enterprise Forum (TEF) held on May 28, 2026 at the City Cultural Center, Surigao City.

The forum brought together accommodation providers, MICE stakeholders, tourist attractions representatives, and barangay officials from Ipil, Mabua, Silop, Day-Asan, and Mapawa. The discussion focused on strengthening tourism enterprise management, enhancing business performance indicators, and adopting standardized tourism data systems.

Participants also acquired practical knowledge on data collection, tracking tourism performance, and preparing reports using the DOTโ€™s recommended and standard templates.

Through this initiative, Surigao City continues to empower its tourism stakeholders into building a more resilient, organized, and competitive tourism industry for the locality.

DOT Caraga extends its appreciation to the LGU of Surigao City, headed by City Mayor Pablo Yves L. Dumlao II, and the Surigao City Tourism Officer Roselyn Merlin, for this productive and significant activity.
