CIDG NETS 174 INDIVIDUALS FOR ONLINE SABONG IN TONDO, MANILA
In adherence to the order of President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr. on the continued suspension of all e-Sabong /online sabong operations, and in line with the focused program thrust of the Chief of the Philippine National Police, Police General Jose Melencio C Nartatez, Jr, the CIDG intensified its law enforcement operations nationwide.
On March 24, 2026 at around 6:00 PM, the CIDG Manila District Field Unit of CIDG National Capital Region together with CIDG Detection and Special; Police Station 1 of Manila Police District; and Manila District Anti-Cyber Crime Team conducted an operation for violation of Presidential Decree No. 1602 (Illegal Gambling) in relation with Republic Act No. 10175 ( Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012)- particularly online sabong inside the Coliseo De Manila, located at Vib Compound, Armando Lopez Vitas, Tondo, Manila that resulted in the arrest of 174 individuals; and confiscation of 48 desktop computers used as cockpit online betting stations, 24 live roosters, sets of cockfighting gaff (tari); bet tickets and bet money amounting to PhP 3,520.00.
A report that reached PMGEN Robert AA Morico II, Director, CIDG, stated that out of the 174 arrested individuals, 28 are management staff, employees, IT personnel, and tellers, while 136 are bettors. They were caught while engaging in online betting of live cockfighting using the online platform/website “sabongvip.net.”
PMGEN Robert AA Morico II stated that it is the policy of the State to strictly prohibit all forms of illegal gambling, including online sabong, as these activities undermine public order, promote unlawful gain, and expose individuals to exploitation and criminal syndicates. The
Executive Order No. 9 which ordered the continued suspension of all e-sabong/online sabong aims to protect "public health and morals" and address social issues such as gambling addiction, bankruptcy, and crime associated with the industry.
The CIDG leadership commends PCOL John K Guiagui, the Regional Chief of the CIDG National Capital Regional Field Unit, PLTCOL Gene M Licud, Chief of CIDG Detection and Special Operations Unit, and the CIDG Manila District Field Unit led by PLTCOL Angelo J Camuyot for the successful crackdown of the online sabong operations. This underscores the CIDG’s aggressive stance against all forms of illegal gambling and activities.
