BCPO Leads Evaluation of National School Safety Drill at BCSAT

BUTUAN CITY POLICE OFFICE, BUTUAN CITY – In a proactive move to strengthen campus security and emergency readiness, PCOL Richie M. Yatar, City Director, personally attended and supervised the National Simultaneous School Safety Drill held today, September 3, 2026, at the Butuan City School of Arts and Trades (BCSAT).

The activity, organized in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), focused on a comprehensive "Lockdown Drill Proper." The exercise aimed to educate students and faculty on the critical "Run, Hide, Fight" survival strategy during active threat scenarios.

PCOL Yatar served as a lead evaluator during the post-drill review. He emphasized the importance of the partnership between the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the academic community in ensuring a swift and organized response to potential security breaches.

"Our presence here is a testament to the BCPO’s commitment to the safety of our youth," said PCOL Yatar. "Regular drills like this are essential to transform panic into a practiced, life-saving response. We are here not just to observe, but to help schools refine their contingency plans to ensure that every student and teacher knows exactly what to do when every second counts."

The event included a brief scenario recall and a thorough evaluation of the school’s performance, involving other key officials, including PMAJ Namra P. Arimao Jr., Station Commander of BCPS 1, and representatives from DepEd Butuan City Division.
