The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist and Mindanao Inclusive Agriculture Development Project (MIADP) conducted an Enterprise Assessment activity for the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) farmers’ associations and beneficiaries under the project implementation area in Datu Saudi Ampatuan. The activity was attended by representatives from the Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR), the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Datu Saudi, Indigenous Peoples Organizations (IPOs), officers and members of the farmers’ associations, and other project beneficiaries.
To facilitate a more comprehensive and participatory assessment, the participants were divided into four groups composed of representatives from the different organizations and stakeholders. Each group conducted focused discussions, organizational assessments, and Training Needs Assessment (TNA) sessions among the IP farmers’ associations. The group discussions encouraged active participation, allowing the beneficiaries to openly share their experiences, challenges, operational concerns, and recommendations regarding their organizations and enterprises.
The assessment covered several major areas including organization and administration, where the groups evaluated the associations’ leadership structure, membership participation, organizational policies, record-keeping systems, and internal management practices. Discussions emphasized the importance of strengthening organizational governance, improving communication among members, and ensuring transparency and accountability within the associations.
During the Training Needs Assessment, the participating IP farmers’ associations identified several priority areas where they require additional technical assistance and capacity-building activities. These included leadership and organizational management, bookkeeping and financial management, enterprise development, inventory management, marketing strategies, operation and maintenance of farm machinery and equipment, and agricultural production technologies. The identified training needs will serve as the basis for future interventions, technical support, and capability enhancement programs to be implemented by MIADP and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.
The activity became an effective venue for collaboration, consultation, and participatory planning among stakeholders and beneficiaries. It also strengthened the partnership among MIADP, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, LGU-Datu Saudi, IPMR, and the Indigenous Peoples Organizations in promoting inclusive agricultural development and empowering IP communities.
