The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH Central Visayas CHD) urged the public to remain vigilant against waterborne diseases, influenza, leptospirosis, and dengue (W.I.L.D diseases) as the rainy season begins.
During the Kapihan sa PIA 7 held on June 24, 2025, Dr. Ronald Jarvik Buscato, Medical Officer IV of the DOH Central Visayas CHD β Communicable Diseases Section, highlighted that these diseases tend to spike during the rainy months due to greater exposure to floodwaters and the rise in mosquito breeding sites. βKasagaran, kun wala lang kay samad, luwas ka sa baha. Kun adunay samad ang tawo, mas dali nga makasulod ang kagaw,β Dr. Buscato explained.
He added that mosquitoes lay their eggs in water, increasing dengue risk during the rainy season.
Dr. Buscato stressed the importance of proactive prevention and early medical intervention. βPrevention really starts at home and we always encourage search and destroy of mosquito-breeding sites. Seek early consultation is very important, kung hilantan og lapas na sa 2 ka adlaw, pinaka dugay nana, kung mahimo within 24 hrs, moduol dayon ta sa pinaka duol nga tambalanan, sa atoang Rural, Municipal or City Health Offices,β he urged.
This engagement underscored DOH Central Visayas CHDβs commitment to strengthening public health initiatives, building a resilient and well-informed community in Central Visayas. Through partnerships with media outlets, the Department aims to enhance community preparedness against prevalent health challenges.
