The 1st year Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) students from the University of the Philippines Visayas, led by Prof. Nicanor Babiera, were warmly welcomed by the LGU Bingawan, headed by the Municipal Mayor Hon. Matt P. Palabrica, PhD. They conducted a field validation activity in the Municipality of Bingawan as part of their course requirements in Planning Analysis and Techniques. The activity aimed to validate applicable indicators for the social and economic development of the municipality.
The 1st year DURP students โ including SKMF President Nicole Pauline Plagata โ engaged in meaningful discussions with key local government officials, Municipal Mayor Matt P. Palabrica, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator (MPDC) Engr. Dan Plagata and Budget Officer Rona Kristie Porras. Discussion points covered the municipalityโs agri-tourism potential, prospects for economic development in the coming years, and the priority programs and projects to be integrated into the local development plan.
As part of the field activity, the students also conducted site visits across the urban area of Bingawan and Barangay Alabidhan, allowing them to observe and assess on-the-ground conditions relevant to their planning study. The ocular inspection provided the students with firsthand insights into the existing land use, community landscape, and development opportunities within the municipality.
