The Municipality of Tuba, through the Office of the Municipal Agriculture, successfully conducted the Culminating Program and Farmers Officials for a Day (FOFAD) on May 26, 2026, at the Municipal Grounds, Poblacion, Tuba, Benguet, as part of the celebration of Farmers and Fisherfolk Month 2026.
With the theme, โPagbibigay-Pugay sa mga Magsasaka at Mangingisda sa Gitna ng Hamon at Krisis,โ the activity recognized the dedication and contribution of farmers and fisherfolk in ensuring food security and supporting the local economy despite various challenges faced by the agricultural sector.
Municipal Agriculturist Mr. Flordelizo B. Abance acknowledged the guests and participants, followed by the welcome remarks of Vice Mayor Maria L. Carantes.
Municipal Mayor Clarita P. Sal-ongan also delivered her message, emphasizing the importance of supporting and empowering local farmers.
One of the highlights of the activity was the Farmers Officials for a Day (FOFAD), where selected farmers were given the opportunity to symbolically assume leadership roles in the municipality through the donning and sashing rites, turnover ceremony, and oath-taking administered by the Municipal Mayor.
Mr. Mark Roy Q. Macanlalay, Regional Manager III of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), also shared a message of support for the agricultural sector and encouraged farmers to continue strengthening local agricultural development.
The program also included an open forum where farmers were able to raise concerns and share insights regarding agriculture and livelihood. In the afternoon, participants took part in various activities, including the FOFAD session, FFM Jam, and the distribution of coconut planting materials through the partnership of the Philippine Coconut Authority and the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist.
The activity concluded with closing remarks from Hon. Eugene M. Gabino, SB Member and Committee Chairperson on Agriculture, followed by acknowledgments from Ms. Michelle S. Minalang, Senior Agriculturist. //TMM
