Unity Walk: Act of Solidarity or Political Spectacle?
AN EDITORIAL

As the election season in Nueva Vizcaya heats up, political aspirants recently participated in a "Unity Walk"—an event supposedly symbolizing solidarity, peace, and fair competition among candidates. But the question remains: Is this act a sincere effort to promote unity, or is it merely a move to attract supporters?

In a political landscape often stained by backbiting g and rivalry, the idea of a Unity Walk is appealing. It presents an image of camaraderie, where opponents set aside differences for the greater good. However, the real measure of unity is not in symbolic marches but in the actions and words of these leaders throughout their campaigns. Unfortunately, history has shown that many candidates speak of unity while simultaneously engaging in disruptive tactics behind the scenes.

One of the taglines of Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito, "I am not a wise politician; I am a wise economist," has set an admirable example. Throughout his tenure, he has advocated for economic recovery and provincial development without resorting to personal attacks against opponents. His leadership reflects the kind of unity Nueva Vizcaya truly needs—one that focuses on progress rather than political theatrics.

If aspirants genuinely seek unity, their campaigns should reflect it beyond staged events. They must promote issue-based discussions rather than character assassinations. They must prioritize the welfare of the province over personal ambitions. More importantly, their commitment to unity should persist even after the elections, regardless of the results.

As voters, we must critically assess whether this Unity Walk is a genuine commitment to peace or just another tool to gain public favor. True unity cannot be achieved in a single march—it must be demonstrated through consistent integrity, respect, and service to the people. Only then can we believe that these leaders truly mean what they say as they call for unity. # gloria

The world of a newly emerging pageantry has its new queen, a local from the stunning province of Nueva Vizcaya, Wesmin A. Pacalso. On February 21, 2025, she was crowned Miss Independent International 2025, securing the country’s first title in the pageant at the Golden Phoenix Hotel in Manila. Competing against 16 other delegates from all over the world, Pacalso stood out with her beauty, intelligence, and cultural pride, ultimately achieving the title for the Philippines.

Born in Zamboanga del Sur, Western Mindanao and raised in Bambang, Pacalso brought her heritage to the international stage, proudly representing the Novo Vizcayano communities particularly the Kalanguya Indigenous Peoples (IP) group. Her journey to the crown is best described from her hard work, and a deep passion for inspiring others
Her victory was nothing short of sensation as she also earned numerous awards in the pageant including Best in National Costume, Best in Inclusivity Video, Miss Independent Ambassador, Best Catwalk, Best Body, and Best in Evening Gown. Each accolade reaffirmed her undeniable presence and talent in the world of pageantry.

Pacalso’s feat in Miss Independent International 2025 was built on years of experience in the pageant industry, achieving international success and recognitions in national competitions, finishing as First Runner-up in the Queen of the World Philippines 2023, besting the 2nd Princess title in the Miss Pearl of the Orient Philippines 2024, and being crowned Miss Independent International Philippines 2024.

Beyond the glitz and glamour, she has not only won a crown but also inspired countless young women to embrace their roots, work hard, and chase their dreams, as her reign is a witness to the power of representation and cultural identity. Further recognition as the SuniScentials Ambassador and the People’s Choice Queen of the People Award solidified her status as a role model.

PESD initiatives expands
November 4, 2024
Provincial Capitol, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya

In a flag raising program this morning, Senior Labor Officer Dolly Rose Minas presented an overview of the significant achievements of the Public Employment Services Division (PESD) under the Office of the Governor. Since its establishment in 2018, PESD has expanded its reach through various employment and livelihood initiatives to support the workforce in Nueva Vizcaya.

Minas highlighted several flagship programs under PESD, such as the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) support initiatives, the Government Internship Program (GIP), and job referral services facilitated in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). PESD has also been instrumental in executing the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) and the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program, providing vital assistance to the province’s disadvantaged and displaced workers.

In addition to these ongoing programs, Minas announced the upcoming “Jobs in Need of Gifts” (JING) initiative, which focuses on helping low-income workers cope with the challenges of inflation. Under JING, around 3,000 tricycle drivers across the province will receive financial support, with each beneficiary provided Php 3,000 to offset rising costs and economic difficulties.

Minas also shared updates on the “Trabaho Para It Umili” (TrPATU) program, an employment initiative aimed at helping marginalized and underemployed individuals across the province. Since its launch, TrPATU has offered much-needed wage assistance to thousands of vulnerable workers, reinforcing the province's commitment to inclusive economic growth and sustainable livelihoods.

“These programs are more than just temporary solutions; they’re part of a broader strategy to uplift our workforce and help them thrive even in tough times,” Minas emphasized, reaffirming Governor Jose V. Gambito's dedication to economic stability and resilience.
Minas expressed gratitude for Gov. Gambito’s support, emphasizing that his focus on workforce development has played an important role in expanding employment services and livelihood programs across Nueva Vizcaya. "Governor Gambito’s leadership has inspired us to push forward with our mission to support local workers and uplift the livelihoods of those most affected by economic challenges," Minas stated.

As the province continues to expand its employment services and livelihood programs, PESD remains at the forefront and is hopeful in championing initiatives that empower local workers and contribute to a brighter economic future for all with the help and support of all the leaders and offices/agencies in the province.
