ARITAO, NUEVA VIZCAYA — Coffee farmers from the Municipality of Aritao gained a deeper appreciation for the value of their harvests through the successful conduct of the first-ever FARMER’S BREW NUEVA VIZCAYA EDITION on 04-05 May 2026.
This initiative aims to help farmers experience and appreciate the coffee they personally cultivate, encouraging them to see coffee not merely as an ordinary crop, but as a valuable commodity capable of creating livelihood opportunities and uplifting communities.
This historic initiative marked the very first FARMER’S BREW edition in the entire Cagayan Valley Region and was conducted through two separate sessions: on May 4 at the Tree Farmers Association in Brgy. Beti, Aritao, and on May 5 at the Cacapian Organic Farmers Association in Ocao-Capiniaan, Aritao.
The program is an advocacy initiative of The Cooking Dad Coffee Roastery and Cafe of Imus, Cavite, owned and managed by John Eric P. Enopia, who has long championed the importance of giving back to coffee farmers, the backbone of the coffee industry.
“Because of our farmers, we have coffee to drink,” Enopia emphasized during the activity, highlighting the vital role farmers play in sustaining the country’s coffee industry.
The activity was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry - Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Office headed by Regional Director/Concurrent Provincial Director Ma. Sofia G. Narag, through the Negosyo Center in Aritao manned by Business Counselor Michael Angelo V. Laureta; Felisa's Grind and Brew, owned and managed by Mark Dhareen Cruz; with the support of the Local Government Unit of Aritao headed by Mayor Remelina Peros-Galam and the Nueva Vizcaya Coffee Community.
The activity also featured inspirational guest speaker Rodyio T. Tacdoy, who shared his journey from being a young coffee farmer to becoming a coffee champion. He emphasized that the secret ingredients to success are hard work, passion, and determination, inspiring participating farmers to pursue excellence in coffee production and processing.
Throughout the training sessions, participants learned how to differentiate coffee fragrance and aroma, evaluate coffee taste through sensory appreciation, and perform basic coffee brewing techniques. Farmers also engaged in hands-on brewing activities using locally produced Aritao coffee beans, allowing them to personally experience the quality and potential of their own coffee products.
As a meaningful conclusion to the activity, participating farmers received basic brewing kits to help them continue practicing and appreciating coffee brewing at home and within their communities. These kits were generously sponsored by various coffee shops from Nueva Vizcaya and neighboring provinces as a collective show of support, gratitude, and respect for the farmers who sustain the coffee industry.
The success of the FARMER’S BREW NUEVA VIZCAYA EDITION reflects the growing collaboration among government agencies, private coffee advocates, local entrepreneurs, and farming communities in promoting and strengthening the local coffee industry in Nueva Vizcaya and the entire Region 2.
