UNIT HISTORY

On 21 March 2025, Field Maintenance Inspection Center- Southern Tagalog was activated as one of Aids to Navigation Service Center Under Maritime Safety Services Command with the mission to develop, establish, operate and maintain aids to navigation in order to enhance the promotion of safety of life and property at sea

To develop, establish, operate and maintain aids to navigation in order to enhance the promotion of safety of life and property at sea. FUNCTION
a) To administer and supervise the operation of different aids to maritime navigation. c) To provide logistics support to the different aids to navigation station. d) To identify and marks all hazard to maritime navigation. e) To install and maintain buoys and beacons on restricted sea lanes and harbors as necessary. f) To train FMIC personnel and lighthouse keepers. g) To conduct research studies for modernization and improvement of ATON including technical evaluation/quality control of lighthouse equipment and accessories. h) To determine as well as acquire, store and distribute spare parts and apparatus to cognizant ATON users.

From 21 to 25 January 2026, the Maritime Safety Services Unitโ€“Southern Tagalog, through its Field Maintenance and Inspection Center- Southern Tagalog (FMIC-STL), conducted scheduled inspection, repair, and preventive maintenance activities on lighthouses in Quezon Province in line with its continuing efforts to ensure the reliability, functionality, and uninterrupted operation of Aids to Navigation within its Area of Responsibility.

During the maintenance period, personnel repaired sun switch/photo eye components, replaced defective lantern lenses, and performed other preventive maintenance work at ๐‹๐’ ๐๐š๐ฅ๐จ๐›๐จ in Brgy. Balobo, Infanta; ๐‹๐’ ๐๐ฎ๐ค๐š๐ฅ in Brgy. Bukal, Jomalig; and ๐‹๐’ ๐๐ฎ๐ž๐ซ๐ญ๐จ ๐‘๐ž๐š๐ฅ in Brgy. Ungos, Real. These activities were undertaken to restore optimal lighting performance, prevent potential system failures, and maintain the operational efficiency of the lighthouse facilities.

The conduct of regular preventive maintenance services plays a vital role in enhancing the visibility and reliability of Aids to Navigation, thereby supporting the safe and efficient movement of vessels traversing key maritime routes in Quezon Province. Such initiatives contribute to risk reduction at sea and strengthen navigational safety for both commercial and small craft operations.

The Unit remains steadfast in providing dependable navigation support services and proactive maintenance programs to support the Philippine Coast Guardโ€™s mission to promote maritime safety, security, and reliability across the maritime domain.
