"I am Nathaniel O. Macato, a RA 7687 Student from Batangas State University and an Aerospace Engineering student. I would just like to share some news regarding on the successful mission conducted by the Philippine Space Agency (PHILSA). I am one of the 100 participants, and one of the 11 official crews that were invited to participate in the 24hrs Analog astronaut mission last September 25-26.

My role as โ€œFlight Engineerโ€ is to monitor the habitat in a simulated space-like environment. But that is not just the highlight. Through the years, I have been involved in โ€œTeleoperation and Roboticsโ€ with your help and the allowances that DOST provide, I was able to propose a โ€œLunar Roverโ€ that were use to simulate the teleoperation of robotics during the mission. I manage the โ€œEVA: Extra-Vehicular Activityโ€ as one of the major missions during the 24Hrs Mission.

This message is to honor and appreciate the help of โ€œDOST-SEIโ€ Scholarship for over the year till now and probably wonโ€™t be reaching this stage without DOST. Thank you!"

The City Government of Lipa and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-CALABARZON formally kicked off the implementation of an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered traffic analytics and decision support system at the Office of the Mayor, New Lipa City Hall, Bulacnin, Lipa City, Batangas, October 01.

The kickoff marked the start of the 12-month implementation of the DOST-CALABARZON and City Government of Lipa-funded project, โ€œAI-Powered Traffic Analytics and Decision Support System for Sustainable Mobility and Traffic Decongestion in the City of Lipa,โ€ with Mobility Vision Plus Inc. serving as technology provider and implementation partner.

During the kickoff, Mobility Vision Plus Inc. presented the project timeline, implementation activities, and next steps for deploying its AI-driven, map-based urban mobility and city planning platform, SEERMO.

The project dashboard is already ready for use by the City Government of Lipa, providing the initial platform for consolidating and analyzing information relevant to mobility and urban planning. The implementation will now proceed to the collection and integration of additional city data, building on baseline information and documents provided by the City Planning and Development Office.

Dr. Syrus Borja Gomari of Mobility Vision Plus Inc. discussed the projectโ€™s ways forward and how the AI-driven platform can support the city in bringing different sources of mobility and spatial information into a common planning environment.

Rather than focusing solely on traffic, the platform will support analyses covering traffic management, road safety, public transport, walkability, bikeability, parking and curbside management, land use and transport interaction, environmental sustainability, and flood assessment and drainage strategy.

The implementation is also expected to generate technical inputs for several city planning priorities, including public transport plan integration, walkability and bikeability studies, traffic study sites, and a city-wide flood assessment and drainage strategy.

The project is aligned with the DOST Smart and Sustainable Communities Program (SSCP), which supports the application of science and technology to community and local government challenges while strengthening the sustainability of S&T interventions.

Leading the kickoff were DOST-CALABARZON Regional Director Emelita P. Bagsit, Lipa City Mayor Eric B. Africa, DOST-CALABARZON Assistant Regional Director Francisco R. Barquilla III, DOST-Batangas Provincial Director Felina C. Malabanan, Lipa City Planning and Development Coordinator Daisy R. Babaan, and Mobility Vision Plus Inc. representatives Dr. Syrus Borja Gomari and Mr. Tim Vargas.

With the kickoff completed, the project will proceed to its data collection and integration phase as the city begins building the information base needed for AI-assisted mobility and urban planning.
