The Sports Fest served as a platform for personnel to build stronger bonds beyond the workplace, cultivate mutual respect, and reinforce the spirit of cooperation essential in accomplishing the Unit’s mission. Through friendly competition and shared experiences, participants demonstrated sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork.

In line with the Philippine Coast Guard’s continuing commitment to uphold the highest standards of maritime safety, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance, the Commander of Vessel Safety Service (VSS), 𝐂𝐀𝐏𝐓 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐋𝐘𝐍 𝐋 𝐉𝐀𝐀𝐋 𝐏𝐂𝐆, successfully conducted a 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐀𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐥 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐓𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠 (𝐕𝐒𝐂-𝐒𝐓𝐋) on May 28, 2026 at Maritime Safety Services Unit – Southern Tagalog (MSSU-STL), DJPMM Access Road, Brgy. Cuta, Batangas City.

The activity was participated in by the designated audit team together with Vessel Safety Enforcement personnel to evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of Vessel Safety Enforcement Inspection (VSEI) and Emergency Readiness Evaluation (ERE) procedures within the Area of Responsibility of Southern Tagalog.

During the conduct of the audit, MSSU-STL showcased its established best practices in vessel safety enforcement operations, which include the systematic conduct of inspections, strict compliance with established rules and regulations, proper documentation and monitoring of inspection activities, and effective coordination with relevant stakeholders.

Notably, MSSU-STL also highlighted its initiative to establish a centralized database containing references for Vessel Safety Enforcement Inspections, MARINA circulars, policies, and other operational data. This innovation significantly improved data accessibility, ensured uniformity in inspection procedures, enhanced monitoring efficiency, and strengthened the overall standardization of enforcement operations.

The Safety Audit likewise served as a vital mechanism to identify issues and concerns encountered by Vessel Safety Enforcement Inspectors during field operations and to recommend appropriate measures to further strengthen enforcement capabilities, readiness, and service delivery.

Moreover, the activity reinforced strict adherence to existing policies, rules, and regulations governing VSEI and ERE, ensuring that all inspection procedures remain fully aligned with established maritime safety standards and protocols.

The conduct of the audit also provided an avenue for collaborative discussion, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement among personnel, further strengthening the Philippine Coast Guard’s capability to promote maritime safety, emergency preparedness, and operational excellence.

In line with the heightened demand for safety assurance during the peak summer season, the Maritime Safety Services Unit – Southern Tagalog (MSSU-STL), through Recreational Safety Center – Southern Tagalog (RSC-STL) and the respective Recreational Safety Enforcement Inspection (RSEI) Teams of Coast Guard Stations within CGDSTL, successfully conducted 𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐲-𝐨𝐧𝐞 (𝟗𝟏) 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 (𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐈) from 01 to 17 April 2026 across major tourist and recreational destinations in Batangas, Mindoro, Quezon, Romblon, and Marinduque.

These inspections were conducted to ensure strict compliance with existing maritime recreational safety standards, including the proper designation and qualification of safety officers and lifeguards, as well as the readiness of safety measures in coastal and beach resort operations.

With the surge of tourists during the summer season, these intensified inspection activities are vital to preventing maritime incidents and ensuring the safety and welfare of beachgoers and resort visitors. The initiative also reinforces the continuous promotion of a safe, secure, and well-regulated recreational maritime environment across Southern Tagalog.

In line with its mandate to ensure maritime safety and regulatory compliance, the Maritime Safety Services Unit – Southern Tagalog (MSSU-STL), through its Vessel Safety Center – Southern Tagalog (VSC-STL), conducted a series of inspection activities across Northern Quezon and Romblon during the third week of April 2026, covering key maritime areas within its Area of Responsibility (AOR).

During the conduct of operations, VSC-STL successfully carried out a total of 𝐬𝐢𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧 (𝟏𝟔) 𝐕𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐥 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 (𝐕𝐒𝐄𝐈) 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐰𝐨 (𝟐) 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 (𝐄𝐑𝐄) on various domestic vessels operating in the region. The Maritime Safety Services Unit – Southern Tagalog (MSSU-STL), through the Field Maintenance and Inspection Center- Southern Tagalog (FMIC-STL), and with the support of Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog (CGDSTL), 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐋𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐋𝐒) 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐧 located in Brgy. Kinabisagan, Mabini, Quezon.

The establishment and activation of LS Kinabisagan represent a critical enhancement to maritime safety operations in Lamon Bay and its adjacent sea lanes. Strategically positioned in an area exposed to open-sea conditions and navigational hazards, the light station provides reliable visual guidance to mariners, particularly at night and during periods of reduced visibility.

This accomplishment was made possible through effective inter-agency coordination and the invaluable support of the Local Government Unit of Mabini, Quezon, whose cooperation was instrumental throughout planning, site preparation, and the successful installation and activation of the facility.

With LS Kinabisagan now fully operational, safer navigation is ensured for both commercial vessels and local fisherfolk, significantly reducing the risk of maritime incidents such as grounding and collision within the area.

As part of its intensified operational efforts during the recent Holy Week observance, Maritime Safety Services Unit – Southern Tagalog (MSSU-STL), through its Recreational Safety Enforcement Inspection (RSEI) Team, successfully conducted a total of 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 (𝟐𝟎𝟒) 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 within Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog (CGDSTL) Area of Responsibility (AOR) 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔. This initiative was undertaken in anticipation of the expected influx of beachgoers, tourists, and other vacationers visiting various coastal and recreational areas across the Southern Tagalog Region during the Lenten season.
