A safe and modernized slaughterhouse will soon rise in Batac City, following the approval of the subproject by the Regional Project Advisory Board 1 under the Philippine Rural Development Project Scale-Up on August 20 in Paoay, Ilocos Norte.
With an estimated cost of Php166.6 million, the slaughterhouse will be built in Barangay Colo.
The province of Ilocos Norte has a strong livestock and poultry industry, recording over 2.25 million livestock heads in the first quarter of this year. It has, however, remained reliant on outdated slaughtering facilities.
The construction of the class “AA” slaughterhouse will therefore ensure food safety and support local producers, with more than 8,000 livestock raisers as direct beneficiaries in Batac.
The new slaughterhouse is expected to complement the Batac Public Market and the soon-to-be-completed Php30M Agricultural Trading Center in the city.
