On April 23, 2026, a comprehensive training on the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT), Katarungang Pambarangay, and Project YAPPAKK (Yaman ken Ayat ti PNP Agpaay ti Kakadwa Para ti Kapia) was successfully conducted at the Barangay Hall of Agdeppa, Bangar, La Union. The activity was spearheaded by PMAJ Clinton P. Amawan in coordination with the Bangar Philippine National Police (PNP), and was actively participated in by the Barangay Tanods of Agdeppa, Alzate, and Bangaoilan East.
The program formally opened with welcoming remarks, emphasizing the importance of strengthening grassroots peacekeeping mechanisms and fostering collaboration between the police force and barangay officials. The training aimed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and capabilities of the barangay tanods in maintaining peace and order and in effectively addressing community concerns.
During the BPAT training session, participants were oriented on their duties and responsibilities as frontliners in ensuring community safety. Topics included proper patrolling techniques, communication protocols, incident reporting, and coordination with the PNP. The discussion underscored the importance of vigilance, discipline, and professionalism in carrying out their roles.
The Katarungang Pambarangay training provided a deeper understanding of the barangay justice system. Resource speakers explained the procedures in handling disputes, from filing of complaints to mediation and conciliation. Emphasis was placed on resolving conflicts amicably at the barangay level to decongest courts and promote harmony within the community. Practical examples and interactive discussions enabled participants to better grasp the application of these processes.
In addition, Project YAPPAKK was introduced as a community-centered initiative of the PNP that promotes unity, compassion, and shared responsibility in maintaining peace. The concept highlighted the value of cooperation, respect, and proactive involvement of citizens and barangay officials in achieving a peaceful environment.
The training was marked by active participation from the attendees, who shared their experiences and raised relevant concerns, making the sessions more engaging and meaningful. The collaborative atmosphere further strengthened the partnership among the PNP, barangay officials, and tanods.
At the conclusion of the program, all barangay tanods who attended the training were given essential equipment to support them in their duties, including a flashlight, a whistle, and a pair of shoes. This gesture served as both a token of appreciation and a practical aid in enhancing their efficiency and readiness in the performance of their responsibilities.
Overall, the activity was a success, equipping the participants with valuable knowledge and tools while reinforcing their commitment to uphold peace, order, and justice in their respective communities.
