SYNOPSIS: At 3:00 PM today, the center of the eye of Typhoon "DOMENG" {JANGMI} was estimated based on all available data at 665 km East Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes (22.0Β°N 128.1Β°E) with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 160 km/h. It is moving North Northwestward at 15 km/h. Southwest Monsoon affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao



FORECAST:

Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon. Possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains. The rest of Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or Southwest Monsoon. Possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms. Light to moderate winds from southwest to west with slight to moderate seas (0.6 to 2.1 meters).

START OF THE SOUTHWEST MONSOON

Ahead of the possible onset of the rainy season, the DOST-PAGASA officially announces the start of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat over the Philippines, which is one of the precursors of the onset of the rainy season.

As Habagat becomes the dominant weather system, occasional to frequent rains and thunderstorms are expected, particularly over the western sections of the country. These conditions may signal the possible onset of the rainy season in the coming days.

However, there may be rain breaks that last a few days or weeks, known as monsoon breaks.
