PNP RECORDS 42% DROP IN FOCUS CRIMES IN AUGUST
The Philippine National Police (PNP) recorded a 41.77 percent decline in focus crimes nationwide in August 2026, with the sharpest reductions seen in carnapping, r**e, and motorcycle carnapping compared with the same period last year.
Based on PNP data, carnapping of motor vehicles posted the highest decline at 67.74 percent, dropping from 31 cases in August 2025 to 10 this year. R**e cases decreased by 58.65 percent, from 769 to 318, while carnapping of motorcycles fell by 53.64 percent, from 220 to 102 cases.
Physical injury cases likewise declined by 46.83 percent, from 521 to 277, while theft dropped by 41.67 percent, from 1,315 to 767 cases. Robbery and homicide also recorded decreases of 33.16 percent and 3.33 percent, respectively.
Overall, the eight focus crime categories registered 2,087 incidents in August 2026, compared with 3,584 in August 2025, representing 1,497 fewer reported incidents during the period.

AGUSAN DEL SUR BUST: SUSPECT CAUGHT WITH CONTRABAND, WEAPONS, AND SHABU

Personnel of the Regional Intelligence Division 13, with tactical support from the 1st Special Action Battalion, Special Action Force, conducted the operation in Barangay Pulang-Lupa, Trento, pursuant to search warrants issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 55, 10th Judicial Region, Trento, Agusan del Sur, for violations of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Fi****ms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Republic Act No. 9516 concerning the illegal or unlawful possession, manufacture, dealing in, acquisition, or disposition of fi****ms, ammunition, or explosives.
Seized during the operation were two .45-caliber pistols with two magazines and five rounds of ammunition, one hand gr***de, and one black holster. Also recovered were 11 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, weighing approximately 30 grams and valued at ₱204,000.00 based on the Dangerous Drug Board standard valuation.
The Trento Municipal Police Station of the Agusan del Sur Police Provincial Office took custody of the arrested suspect and the seized items for documentation and proper disposition.
“We will not allow illegal fi****ms and explosives to remain in the hands of individuals who can use them to threaten the safety of our communities. Our police units will remain focused on identifying and apprehending those who violate the law,” PGEN Nartatez said.
“Malinaw ang ating paninindigan laban sa ilegal na armas, eksplosibo, at ilegal na droga. Hindi natin hahayaang malagay sa panganib ang seguridad ng ating mga komunidad,” he added.

THREE BEHIND BARS FOR THEFT, EXTORTION OF SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL
The Philippine National Police, under the command of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., arrested three suspects following a hot pursuit operation stemming from the theft and attempted extortion involving a South African national, with vital identification and travel documents recovered in Mandaluyong City on September 6, 2026.
The victim, a 45-year-old South African port manager, lost a black laptop bag containing his passport, Seaman’s Book, Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR) card, Apple iPhone 8, iPad (5th Generation), and other valuables from his residence along Syquia Street, Barangay Sta. Ana, Manila.
The investigation gained a crucial break through CCTV footage, which showed a female acquaintance leaving the property and subsequently meeting three male companions before they boarded a white taxicab. The victim later received messages demanding ₱5,000 in exchange for the return of his stolen identification and travel documents.
Acting on the lead, Intelligence and Follow-Up personnel of the Sta. Ana Police Station, together with the Punta Police Community Precinct, conducted a hot pursuit operation with assistance from Mandaluyong Police Sub-Station 7 and Barangay Hagdang Bato Libis officials.
The operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects—a 28-year-old female and two males aged 36 and 38—at a residence along A. Bonifacio Street in Mandaluyong City.
Police recovered the victim’s South African passport, Seaman’s Book, and Bureau of Immigration documents, although some of the electronic devices and other valuables remain unrecovered. The arrested suspects were turned over to the Manila Police District–General Assignment and Investigation Section (MPD-GAIS) for investigation and the filing of appropriate charges.

Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the operation reflects the PNP's continuing effort to address illegal activities that may put consumers at risk.

“Kapag may produkto na ipinagbibili sa publiko, dapat malinaw na ito ay ligtas at sumusunod sa batas. Our job is to make sure that people are protected, especially in an online marketplace where transactions can happen quickly. We will continue working with regulatory agencies so that enforcement is both firm and fair,” PGen Nartatez said.

The operation is part of the PNP's Focused Agenda, particularly under Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO), which promotes coordinated, intelligence-driven, and accountable police action. It also supports the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in strengthening public safety and protecting communities from activities that may compromise consumer welfare.

The PNP reminded the public to exercise caution when purchasing health and beauty products online and to check whether products are properly authorized by the appropriate regulatory agencies. Appropriate charges are being prepared for filing before the Office of the City Prosecutor of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.

LONG-SOUGHT MERCURIO GANG-LINKED HVI ARRESTED IN ZAMBALES
A reported High-Value Individual (HVI) and alleged member of the Mercurio Criminal Gang was arrested along with a 23-year-old woman in a drug operation that yielded approximately 13 grams of suspected shabu in Castillejos, Zambales on September 7, 2026.
The 40-year-old male suspect, a resident of Castillejos, was identified in the police report as an HVI and alleged member of the criminal group. He was arrested with his female companion in Barangay San Jose during an anti-illegal drug operation conducted by the Castillejos Municipal Police Station, Zambales Police Intelligence Unit, and Zambales Provincial Intelligence Team of Regional Intelligence Unit 3.
Police recovered seven heat-sealed sachets containing suspected shabu with an estimated standard drug price of ₱88,400.00. The suspects and the seized items were brought to the Castillejos MPS for proper documentation and disposition.
