Under House Bill No. 6981, regional autonomy establishes elected regional institutions that bring governance closer to the people.

Voters across the Cordillera directly elect three key regional leadership branches:

👔 REGIONAL GOVERNOR
• Exercises executive authority, control, and supervision over regional programs, projects, and services [Secs. 52–53].
• Manages regional departments, devolved agencies, and staff [Secs. 27 & 56–57].
• Chairs the Cordillera Development Council (CDC) [Secs. 58–60].

🤝 REGIONAL VICE-GOVERNOR
• Acts as the political and administrative head and presiding officer of the Regional Assembly [Secs. 64 & 66].
• Assumes executive duties in cases of temporary or permanent vacancy of the Regional Governor [Secs. 47–48 & 64].
• May head a regional office created by the Regional Assembly [Sec. 64].

📜 REGIONAL ASSEMBLY

👔 DEVOLVED AGENCIES & LGUs: Supervised by the President through the Regional Governor, ensuring smooth operations across local government units and transferred line agencies.

📚 Literacy Requirements: Governor and Vice-Governor candidates must be able to read and write in Filipino or English. Regional Assembly candidates can read and write in Filipino, English, or any local regional language.

While World War II raged across the globe, its final chapter in the Philippines was written in the Cordillera.

On September 2, 1945, General Tomoyuki Yamash*ta—known as the "Tiger of Malaya" and commander of the Japanese Imperial Army in the Philippines—surrendered to local guerrilla forces and Allied troops in Kiangan, Ifugao.

The following day, on September 3, 1945, General Yamash*ta was brought to Camp John Hay in Baguio City, where he signed the formal Instrument of Surrender. He officially surrendered his remaining forces to American Generals Jonathan Wainwright and Arthur Percival—symbolizing the complete defeat of Japanese resistance and the long-awaited return of peace to our nation.

Today, we honor the victory, resilience, and brave sacrifices of the war veterans, local guerrillas, and communities who defended our freedom! 🕊️✨

Four decades later, the promise remains: to fulfill the Cordilleras’ aspiration for genuine Autonomy.

Nearly 40 years after the signing of the 1986 Mt. Data Peace Accord, the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Cordillera Bodong Administration–Cordillera People’s Liberation Army (CBA-CPLA) have formally inked the agreement on Tuesday, September 1, at the Malacañang Palace in Manila, in a ceremony witnessed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
