Baguio City, through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Council, proudly participated in the โ๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ๐ง ๐๐ฎ๐ณ๐จ๐ง ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ข๐๐ฌโ held at the Apayao River (Dacao Dam Section) in Pudtol, Apayao, organized by the Office of Civil Defense-Cordillera in partnership with the Provincial Government of Apayao (host province).
The city was represented by personnel from the Baguio City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Baguio City Police Office, and BFP CAR Baguio City FS.
The event was time-based, focusing on the fastest completion of each rescue challenge, where Baguio City placed 5th overall.
The team was grateful to achieve 3rd place in the Swift Water Rescue event out of 13 delegates, as well as 4th place in the Amazing Race. While the team did not place within the top five in the Sky Pilot Maneuvering Technique, they were honored to receive a special recognition for Best in Camp, awarded for practicing proper waste segregation and maintaining an organized camp setup.
Despite having no sea or wide rivers in Baguio, the team demonstrated competence and adaptability by excelling in water-based rescue events. More than the rankings, the participation underscored that in times of disaster, while speed is critical, it must always be complemented by proper ex*****on to ensure the safety of rescuers, patients, and the community.
The event served not only as a competition but also as a platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and strengthening camaraderie among responders from Regions CAR, I, and II, all united in the common goal of saving lives.
The team extends its sincere appreciation to the City Government of Baguio, Barangay Nangalisan, Tuba, Benguet, and to the La Trinidad MDRRMO. Likewise, heartfelt gratitude is extended to all supporters who continuously cheered for and followed the journey of the Baguio delegates, whose encouragement greatly contributed to the teamโs morale.
Overall, the experience strengthened competencies, fostered stronger partnerships, and reinforced the commitment to continuously improve public service in disaster response.
Congratulations to Civil Defense Cordillera and the Provincial Government of Apayao for the safe and successful conduct of the 1st Northern Luzon Rescuelympics 2026๐.
A big round of applause and kudos to all participating teams and responders for showcasing skill, teamwork, and dedication.
