QHNHS students evacuate safely following intensity V earthquake

Students of Quezon Hill National High School (QHNHS) were safely evacuated after an intensity V earthquake struck Baguio City at 2:33 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, during regular class hours.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the earthquake measured magnitude 4.5 and originated approximately 9 kilometers southwest of Tuba, Benguet. Intensity V was recorded in Baguio City, prompting the immediate implementation of the school's earthquake evacuation procedures.

Students immediately performed the "Duck, Cover, and Hold" procedure before being guided by teachers and school personnel to their designated evacuation areas. Attendance was checked to ensure the safety and accountability of all learners.

Following the evacuation and safety assessment, class advisers contacted parents and guardians to arrange the safe retrieval of their children and documented the release of each learner. Students were then dismissed and released to their parents or guardians in accordance with the school's safety protocols.

The school principal, Dr. Marjorie A. Sumakey continued to monitor the situation and reminded students and personnel to remain alert for possible aftershocks while prioritizing everyone's safety. No injuries or damage to school facilities were reported as of press time.

The sound of the alarm prompted learners, teachers, and staff of Quezon Hill National High School at exactly 9:00 a.m. on June 18, 2026, to take cover and evacuate safely as the school participated in the Second Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED), reinforcing the importance of readiness in times of disaster.

Quezon Hill National High School (QHNHS) successfully conducted Brigada Eskwela from June 1–3, 2026, bringing together teachers, parents, students, alumni, community volunteers, and partner organizations in a shared effort to improve the school's learning environment ahead of the opening of classes on June 8.

QHNHS extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Baguio Family and Friends–Lions Club and all volunteers whose generosity, time, and dedication contributed to the success of Brigada Eskwela 2026.

Quezon Hill National High School launches Brigada Eskwela 2026

Teachers, parents, community stakeholders, and volunteers gathered as the school officially launched Brigada Eskwela 2026 at the Quezon Hill National High School grounds on June 1, 2026, marking the start of preparations for the upcoming school year.

The kick-off program was spearheaded by Dr. Marjorie A. Sumakey, School Principal, who welcomed participants and expressed her appreciation for the continued support of the school's stakeholders and community partners. In her message, she emphasized that Brigada Eskwela is more than a school clean-up activity, noting that it reflects the collective commitment of the school and the community to provide learners with a conducive environment where they can learn and grow. She also encouraged all stakeholders to continue working together in support of quality education and student success.

The activity served as a call for volunteers and partners to take part in various school improvement initiatives.

Parents, alumni, local government representatives, and community members expressed their support during the event, demonstrating the spirit of bayanihan that has long been a cornerstone of Brigada Eskwela.

Through the collective efforts of its stakeholders, Quezon Hill National High School continues to uphold the values of cooperation, volunteerism, and shared responsibility in promoting a conducive learning environment for all learners.

As preparations for the opening of classes continue, the QHNHS community remains united in its mission of sustaining a learning environment that promotes both academic excellence and holistic development among learners, in line with this year's Brigada Eskwela theme, “Bayanihan sa Paaralan: Nagkakaisa para sa Kaayusan at Kaalaman.”

QHNHS celebrates 13th founding anniversary

Quezon Hill National High School (QHNHS) celebrated its 13th founding anniversary with the theme "QHNHS at 13 years: Cultivating Excellence in a Transformative World", highlighting key achievements and strong community support.

The program opened with a thanksgiving mass, followed by the message of the Schools Division Superintendent, Soraya T. Faculo, PhD, CESO V, who emphasized continuous improvement, learner-centered teaching, and adapting to change through innovation and responsible use of technology. She also reminded teachers and students to remain professional and respectful, especially on social media.

SGOD Chief, Niño M. Tibangay, PhD, shared a message recalling the school’s early beginnings and its progress, from addressing discipline issues to improving academic performance. He commended the teachers and community for sustaining these gains.

Congratulatory messages were also extended by the District 7 PSDS, Dr. Lourdes B. Lomas-e and former principal of QHNHS, Nickcarter Junior C. Gonzalo.

Support from stakeholders was also evident. Representatives from Victoria Village, Middle Quezon Hill, and Irisan barangays pledged continued assistance, including inclusion in programs, scholarships, and support for Brigada Eskwela.

The school’s linkages, including PESO Baguio, OCD-CAR, BCPO Station 1, University of Baguio- College of Dentistry, and Siloam College, also reaffirmed their commitment to support school initiatives.

The success of the celebration was made possible through the leadership of School Principal Dr. Marjorie A. Sumakey, together with the dedicated efforts of the teaching and non-teaching staff.

As QHNHS marks 13 years, the school continues to move forward with the support of its community, aiming to further improve and provide quality education for all learners.

Fire safety training strengthens QHNHS disaster response

Fire safety training strengthened the disaster response of Grade 9 students at Quezon Hill National High School (QHNHS) as they participated in a fire safety orientation and drill conducted by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) on March 18, 2026.

“You can’t extinguish a fire without knowing the essentials,” said Senior Fire Officer 3 Christian M. Padaso of the Baguio City Bureau of Fire Protection, who led the orientation and demonstration prior to the drill.

Students actively participated in practical demonstrations, applying proper responses to fire incidents and the skills discussed during the orientation.

The activity concluded with a fire evacuation drill supervised by Fire Officer 2 Carmelene C. Angway and Fire Officer 1 Agnep F. Yango, where students were guided to designated safe areas in preparation for real-life emergencies.

Tatlong Quezonians ang nagpakitang-gilas sa Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) 2026 na ginanap sa Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School, Pebrero 6-8, kung saan isa ang magpapatuloy sa Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) sa Abra ngayong Marso.

Nasungkit ni Janaah Shane B. Tawana ang unang pwesto sa pagsulat ng lathalain, dahilan upang siya ay umabante sa RSPC. Samantala, nakamit nina Rhiannie Saphire V. Biagtan (pagsulat ng kolum) at Hera Althea L. Tudo (pagsulat ng balitang pampalakasan) ang ikalimang pwesto, na kapwa mula sa Nan Dontog.

Nagningning din ang Quezon Hill National High School (QHNHS) sa larangan ng pampahayagan matapos makuha ang unang pwesto sa pahinang balitang pampalakasan, ikalawang pwesto sa pahinang editoryal, at ikapitong pwesto sa pahinang balita.
