Innovators and startup founders presented research-driven solutions addressing healthcare, environmental sustainability, waste management, and public safety during the Incubator Baguio Startup Showcase at the Multipurpose Hall, Baguio City Hall on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
Former City Councilor Levy Lloyd Orcales discussed the significance of Ordinance No. 063-2023, which institutionalized the Baguio City Research and Innovation Alliance (BCRIA) and reinforced the city's commitment to fostering research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The ordinance likewise strengthened the role of Incubator Baguio as a platform that bridges research, startup incubation, and commercialization.
The program's main agenda featured a startup showcase, where five startups presented technologies and products designed to address challenges in healthcare, environmental sustainability, waste management, and public safety.
Leading the presentations was Auscultate, an artificial intelligence-powered decision support tool developed by co-founders Johan Rickardo Roxas, Ramon Emmiel Jasmin, and Rithik Tank. The startup introduced a technology that assists healthcare professionals in diagnosing pulmonary diseases through lung sounds. Auscultate offers both a specialized digital stethoscope and an integrated mobile application, providing doctors with an all-in-one platform that supports faster, more accessible, and data-driven clinical assessments.
Grounded, founded by Engr. Rodolfo Tabangin, followed with its innovative wastewater treatment solution that utilizes spent coffee grounds and clay-based materials to remove contaminants from wastewater. Through a circular economy approach, the technology transforms coffee waste into a bio-adsorbent capable of reducing excess nutrients and heavy metals while offering a low-energy and scalable option for environmental detoxification and water treatment.
Addressing another environmental concern, EcoVerde, founded by Stefano Louis Solis, showcased its waste-to-energy enterprise that converts abundant pine needle waste into clean and reliable charcoal briquettes. The initiative seeks to reduce fire risks, minimize waste accumulation, and provide a sustainable fuel alternative while creating economic opportunities through community participation and local government collaboration.
The fourth presentation featured Tasarap, founded by Lloyd Saysay, which introduced a locally produced edible cup designed to reduce dependence on single-use plastics. The eco-friendly cup can hold hot beverages for up to 50 minutes and cold beverages for up to 80 minutes while offering better insulation than conventional disposable cups. The innovation promotes responsible consumption by transforming packaging into a consumable product and reducing waste generation.
Completing the lineup was AI Core, founded by Augnina Reburiano, which introduced a software platform capable of generating three-dimensional reconstructions of crime scenes from photographs. The technology is designed to support forensic investigations by providing investigators with more detailed visualizations, improving crime scene documentation, and enhancing analytical capabilities during case assessments.
Following the presentations, Mayor Benjamin Magalong provided feedback on the said innovations. He shared that he had already reached out to individuals and professionals within his network whose expertise and services may help support the development and implementation of the featured projects. The discussion underscored the importance of collaboration and connecting innovators with potential partners and stakeholders to help bring their solutions to a wider market.
The program concluded with a presentation by City Planning, Development and Sustainability Coordinator Ar. Donna R. Tabangin, who outlined the accomplishments of Incubator Baguio and discussed its upcoming initiatives. She highlighted the incubator's continuing efforts to strengthen innovation pathways, support startup growth, and facilitate the commercialization of research-based solutions in the city.
The startup showcase demonstrated the potential of innovation and entrepreneurship to address real-world challenges through practical and technology-driven solutions. Through initiatives such as the Baguio City Research and Innovation Alliance and Incubator Baguio, the city continues to foster an environment that supports research, innovation, collaboration, and enterprise development. -Mabelle Fernandez (UC-PIO Intern)
