LOOK | The Department of Information and Communications Technology – Cordillera Regional Office (DICT – CAR) led a blended (onsite and virtual) public consultation on the proposed renovation of the Digital Transformation Center (DTC) Baguio at the Post Office Loop, upper Session Road, on Wednesday, March 25.
The DTC Baguio, classified as a level 2 DTC, offers basic to intermediate ICT skills, business communications and cybersecurity courses, co-working spaces, free internet connectivity, free use of ICT equipment, e-government services, and other ICT-enabled services.
Given that the DTC Site is recognized as a site of historical and cultural significance, during the consultation, DICT-CAR presented the plans for the entire Post Office building, in line with the drafted Conservation Management Plan submitted to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines.
DICT – CAR Regional Director Jimmicio Daoaten, in welcoming the consultation participants, outlined that as the DTC Baguio has been serving as a vital hub for ICT capacity building and access in the region, as well as bridging the digital divide by delivering ICT-enabled services and learning opportunities to underserved communities, they aim to amplify its impact by upgrading the center.
With the center recognized as a structure of historical and cultural significance, Daoaten also assured that their proposed renovation carefully balances development with preservation, ensuring that the site’s character-defining features and heritage value are protected while improving its function as a modern digital learning and innovation space.
