𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗬 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗢𝗙 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗦! 🌳

The United Nations proclaimed 𝟮𝟭 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗛 as the International Day of Forests (IDF) in 2012 to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests. Member countries are encouraged to undertake local, national and international efforts to organize activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns.

For , our theme is 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗦𝗨𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗨𝗠𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡.

Forest sustainable management and their use of resources are key to combating climate change, and to contributing to the prosperity and well-being of current and future generations. Forests also play a crucial role in poverty alleviation and in the achievement of the 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀 (𝗦𝗗𝗚𝘀). Yet despite all these priceless ecological, economic, social and health benefits, global deforestation continues at an alarming rate.

Wood helps to provide bacteria-free food and water in many kitchens, build countless furniture and utensils, replace materials as harmful as plastic, create new fibers for our clothes and, through technology , be part of the fields of medicine or the space race.

It is vital to consume and produce wood in a more environmentally friendly way for the planet and its inhabitants. Let’s protect this easily renewable resource with a sustainable management of forests.

𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗗 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗪𝗘𝗗𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗗𝗔𝗬𝗦 🦜

𝘌𝘶𝘳𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘶𝘴 𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴, commonly known as the Oriental dollarbird, has a wide distribution, which extends from Australia to Japan and India. It can also be found all over the Philippines, especially in the lush green forests of Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, and Tarlac.

The dollarbird is so-named because of the pale blue coin-shaped spots on its wings. It is distinguished by its bluish-green back and wings and its bright blue throat. It is usually found perched in branches of high trees, where it watches the ground hunting for insects to eat. Although they have a wide range, dollarbird populations are still affected by habitat loss and climate change.

Help us protect our diverse wildlife like the Oriental dollarbird, so they may stay #𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞. Protect our forests and report any illegal hunting, collecting and selling of wildlife to the nearest DENR Office in your area.

𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗗 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗪𝗘𝗗𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗗𝗔𝗬𝗦 🦜

The Philippine trogon (𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴) is a fairly elusive long-tailed bird with distinctive coloring. Deemed as the real-life "Ibong Adarna" of the Filipino myth, this bird is found in the Sierra Madre Mountain Range, particularly in the portion of Aurora, Nueva Ecija and Bulacan in Central Luzon.

Although classified as a species of least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), it faces the danger of illegal hunting as more and more poachers look for this species because of its beauty. However, the Philippine trogon does badly in captivity and more often end up dead in cages.

Help us protect our diverse wildlife like the Philippine trogon, so they may stay #𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞. Protect our forests and report any illegal hunting, collecting and selling of wildlife to the nearest DENR Office in your area.
