The Baguio/Benguet KMME Mentees successfully completed their Business Improvement Plan Mock Presentations from June 9โ€“11, 2026, at the Provincial Office. This activity served as a key preparatory step for the Final BIP Presentations scheduled on June 16โ€“18, 2026.

The mock presentations provided mentees with a valuable opportunity to strengthen their presentation skills, refine and enhance their business improvement plans, and receive constructive feedback to help them better prepare for the final evaluation. This activity also enabled participants to gain confidence in presenting their business strategies and growth plans before a panel of evaluators.

Serving as panelists were Ms. Teodora Ballola and Ms. Andrea Palaez, former KMME Program Coordinators and DTI personnel, along with Ms. Aulivia Ong, a KMME Batch 2021 alumnus and owner of Fiesta Chilis. Drawing from their expertise and experience, the panelists shared insightful recommendations and practical guidance to help the mentees further improve their business plans and presentations.

As our mentees prepare for the Final BIP Presentations, we wish them the best of luck and continued success.! โœจ

๐™†๐™’๐˜ผ๐™‡๐™„๐™๐™”!

10 June 2026. Quality is more than just a standard, it is a commitment to consumer safety, product excellence, and business growth.

As a continuous commitment to growth and strengthening the products and expanding market opportunities for our Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs), the Department of Trade and Industry DTI Baguio Benguet through the Kibungan Negosyo Center, conducted the seminar entitled: โ€œKwality! Strengthening Kibungan Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises through Good Manufacturing Practices.โ€

Fifteen (15) MSMEs engaged in the processed food and processed fruits and nuts industry participated in the activity to gain valuable knowledge on food safety, product quality, and regulatory compliance.

During the seminar, Mr. Giovanni G. Monang, RPh, Food and Drug Regulatory Officer II from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), lectured on the importance of Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in ensuring that food products are consistently produced, handled, and stored according to quality standards. Through GMP, MSMEs can improve product quality, build consumer trust, and increase their competitiveness in the market.

Mr. Joshua Jhun B. Pasi, Information Officer completed the discussions by providing a comprehensive walkthrough of the step-by-step process of securing an FDA License to Operate (LTO), equipping participants with the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate future applications.

As consumer demand for safe and quality products continues to grow, compliance with food safety standards and securing the necessary regulatory permits become essential steps toward business sustainability and market expansion. Through this seminar, participating MSMEs gained practical insights that can help them add value to their products, strengthen their operations, and unlock opportunities to access wider markets.

One step closer to quality, compliance, and growth, truly the seminar empowered Kibungan MSMEs to transform local products into market-ready products that meet industry standards.

Boosting the Bamboo Industry!

A stakeholdersโ€™ meeting was conducted to discuss the creation of the Provincial Bamboo Industry Development Council (PBIDC). The activity gathered representatives from Philex Mining Corporation, the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) through BENRO, OPAG, and partner coordinators to support the institutionalization of a coordinated bamboo industry development framework in the province.

Representing Philex Mining Corporation โ€“ MEPEO were Mr. Paquito Tobias, Chief Environmental Compliance and Exploration Chief, and Ms. Jessica Molina, Environmental Data Analyst and Program Coordinator. From the COMREL Department, Ms. Ferlyn Caslangan, Cluster Coordinator for Itogon, participated in the discussion. Also present were Ms. Liza Labasan, Ms. Fatima Tangan (PBIDC Advisor), Ms. Christina Tolero of Ladiyang, and Ms. Joanne Torres of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG).

During the meeting, Philex Mining Corporation was designated as Co-Chairman representing the private sector, MSMEs, and farmer stakeholders in the proposed council. The participants reviewed and discussed the structure, functions, and coordination mechanisms of the PBIDC to ensure alignment with provincial bamboo industry development priorities.

A separate session with PLGU-BENRO and OPAG focused on the review of the draft Executive Order establishing the PBIDC. Inputs and recommendations were provided to strengthen policy provisions, clarify institutional roles, and ensure effective implementation mechanisms.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to further refine and finalize the draft Executive Order and to strengthen multi-sectoral collaboration toward the formal establishment of the PBIDC.

From Surplus to Sustainability!

When the harvest is bountiful, it should be a celebration. But for many farmers, a peak season often means a flooded market, plummeting prices, and heartbreaking post-harvest lossesโ€”especially for highly perishable crops like cabbage and leafy greens.
From June 3-5, 2026, the members of Our Farmers Haven, stepped up to tackle this challenge head-on at least for its members. In a partnership initiated by the Our Farmers Haven management in collaboration with the DTI Baguio-Benguet Provincial Office and Benguet State University (BSU)- Agri Innovate Program Project 2, twenty members of the OFHI coming from different municipalities of Benguet were trained on Vegetable Preservation and Value-Adding Training Using Innovative Food Technologies through the Shared Service Facilities.

Through a dynamic "learning-by-doing" approach, farmers mastered Vegetable Preservation and Value-Adding. Instead of watching their hard work go to waste, these communities are now equipped to transform vulnerable surplus into high-value, shelf-stable, and delicious innovations.
