๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š: EDC NIR drives strategic solutions for regional economic concerns, advances agriculture, fisheries, tourism priorities

The Economic Development Committee (EDC) of the Regional Development Council- Negros Island Region (RDC NIR) convened its CY 2026 Third Quarter Regular Meeting on 2 September at Citadines Hotel in Bacolod City to discuss emerging economic concerns and priority development initiatives supporting the region's growth and competitiveness.

Among the key agenda items were updates from the Department of Agriculture NIR on the price trends of basic commodities, alongside situation reports on African Swine Fever (ASF), the Red-Striped Soft Scale Insect (RSSI), and priority agricultural commodities aimed at safeguarding food security, agricultural productivity, and stakeholder livelihoods.

The Committee also discussed measures to address the pressing concerns in the fisheries sector, including the Blue Swimming Crab export ban and updates on livelihood recovery plans related to the Negros Ethanol wastewater spill. In addition, proposed tourism development projects in Negros Oriental were presented for possible funding assistance from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority.

EDC continues to strengthen interagency collaboration to address regional economic concerns, enhance the competitiveness of key industries, and advance sustainable development across the region.

Entries were evaluated based on innovativeness, sustainability, scalability and marketability, and potential impact and relevance.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., who is also the chairperson of the NIC, personally conferred the awards through a medallion and a plaque.

The awardees also received PHP 3.5 Million worth of cash grants and post-competition support, including training and mentoring, participation in local and international platforms, and opportunities to connect with potential investors, clients, and business partners.

๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š: The Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev), which serves as the Secretariat of the National Innovation Council (NIC), recognized the winners of the 2026 Presidential Filipinnovation Awards National Competition for their innovative solutions aligned with the 10 priority areas of the National Innovation Agenda and Strategy Document (NIASD) 2023โ€“2032.

๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š: The national finals of the second Presidential Filipinnovation Awards (PFA) opened on Tuesday (September 1), bringing together 16 finalists who presented homegrown solutions to development challenges across key priority areas.

These are Learning and Education; Health and Well-Being; Food and Agribusiness; Finance, Manufacturing and Trade; Public Administration; Transportation and Logistics; Energy; and Blue Economy and Water.

The finalists underwent a rigorous process of eligibility screening, technical evaluation, mentoring, live pitching, and prototype demonstration during the sub-national competitions held across the country.

They also received capacity-building support to refine their business models and pitch decks ahead of presenting their innovations to the National Board of Judges today (September 2). Their entries will be evaluated based on innovativeness; sustainability, scalability, and marketability; and potential impact and relevance.

โ€œThe people who best understand the challenges faced by our farmers, workers, entrepreneurs, students, and communities are the Filipinos who live these realities every day,โ€ said Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Secretary Arsenio M. ๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š: RPMC NIR intensifies efforts to resolve infrastructure bottlenecks, advances digital project monitoring

The Regional Project Monitoring Committee (RPMC) of the Negros Island Region (NIR) convened on 28 August 2026 in Bacolod City for its CY 2026 Third Quarter Regular Meeting.

Among the key agenda items were updates on issues affecting the implementation of the Bacolodโ€“Negros Occidental Economic Highway (BANOCEH). The meeting also featured a presentation by the Regional Development Council VIII on the Quick Monitoring System, a web-based platform aimed at strengthening the monitoring of programs and projects through real-time tracking and artificial intelligence.

In addition, the Provincial and City Project Monitoring Committees of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, and Bacolod City presented project implementation issues and concerns requiring interagency discussion and resolution.

RPMC NIR continues to strengthen coordination among government agencies and local government units to facilitate the timely resolution of issues affecting project implementation and improve monitoring mechanisms across the region.
