CAPITOL, DEPED INK MOA FOR CONSTRUCTION OF CLASSROOMS IN EIGHT SCHOOLS

Negros Occidental Governor B**g Lacson, together with Provincial Administrator Atty Rayfrando P. Diaz II, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Education (DepEd), represented by Undersecretary Peter Corvera, for the construction of classrooms in various schools in the province.

The MOA signing was held at the DepEd Central Office in Manila, yesterday, July 9.

The beneficiary schools are Don E. Bilbao Elementary School in Hinoba-an; Mainit Elementary School in Toboso; Ma-init Elementary School in Cauayan; Bunga Integrated School in Don Salvador Benedicto; Laga-an Elementary School in Calatrava; Medina Integrated School and Iliranan Integrated School in San Carlos City; and Salamanca Elementary School in Toboso.

Gov. Lacson and Atty. Diaz thanked DepEd, under the leadership of Secretary Sonny Angara, for approving the implementation of the classroom construction projects in Negros Occidental, saying that the initiative reflects the national government's continued support for the province's education sector and will help address the need for additional learning spaces, ensuring that more students have access to safe, quality classrooms.*

The recent incidents of violence that occurred within and around school campuses are deeply disturbing and serve as a stark reminder of our shared responsibility to protect our children.

Schools are meant to be places of learning, growth, and opportunity. They should be environments where students feel safe, respected, and free to pursue their education without fear. For this reason, I urge all school heads, administrators, and management of both public and private educational institutions to remain vigilant and steadfast in their commitment to maintaining safe and secure campuses.

Ensuring the safety of our learners requires more than policies and protocols. It calls for active leadership and close coordination with parents, local government units, law enforcement agencies, and the entire community to ensure students' safety. Together, we must foster a culture of discipline, respect, responsibility, and nonviolence among our youth.

The welfare of our students is a responsibility that we all share. Let us continue working together to ensure that our schools remain places where young people can learn, develop their potential, and build their future in an environment of safety and security.

May God continue to bless and protect our youth.

Kasaysayan. Kalayaan. Kinabukasan.

These three words capture our story as a nation and as a people.

Our history reminds us of the sacrifices that secured our freedom. Our freedom challenges us to become worthy stewards of that gift. And the future calls us to build a nation that honors the struggles of the past while creating greater opportunities for the next Filipino generations yet to come.
