PNP STATEMENT ON THE MINDANAO EARTHQUAKE

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is closely coordinating with the Office of Civil Defense, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), and local government units following the earthquake that struck off the coast of Sarangani this morning. The safety and security of residents in affected areas remain the PNP’s top priority.

PNP personnel across Mindanao have been placed on heightened alert to assist in evacuation efforts, secure critical infrastructure, and support relief operations. The police are ensuring that roads and access routes are clear for rescue teams and that evacuation centers are safe and orderly for displaced residents, particularly in coastal communities under the tsunami warning.

The PNP urges all residents to follow evacuation instructions, move to higher ground, and prioritize personal safety. All units are monitoring the situation in real time and are ready to provide immediate assistance wherever needed.

The PNP remains fully committed to supporting ongoing disaster response operations and ensuring the safety and security of affected communities during this critical time.

We continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide timely updates as needed.

PNP STATEMENT ON THE INCIDENT DURING THE PRESS BRIEFING

The Philippine National Police (PNP) upholds the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and respect in all official engagements, particularly in press briefings and interactions with oversight bodies and the media.

During the press briefing held this afternoon, June 3, 2026, a police officer was invited to clarify his involvement in a vehicular traffic incident that occurred on June 2, 2026 along MLQ Avenue corner Mauling Creek, Brgy. Bagumbayan, Taguig City. The incident involved two vehicles and had earlier been resolved through an amicable settlement between the parties concerned.

While responding to questions during the briefing, the officer made an inappropriate remark directed at a senior official, which was made in the presence of members of the media and disrupted the orderly conduct of the proceedings. The officer was subsequently directed to step out of the press briefing area in order to maintain proper decorum.

The PNP does not condone any form of disrespectful conduct or language that undermines discipline, professionalism, and the integrity of official public forums. The concerned personnel will be subjected to appropriate administrative review in accordance with existing rules and due process.

The PNP assures the public that the matter will be addressed with fairness, accountability, and transparency, consistent with its commitment to a disciplined and professional police service.

CIDG SEIZES 28 LOOSE FI****MS AND 4 EXPLOSIVES IN 72 HOURS

In compliance with the focused program thrust of the Chief of the Philippine National Police, POLICE GENERAL JOSE MELENCIO C NARTATEZ JR., to sustain the campaign against loose fi****ms, the CIDG intensified its OPLAN PAGLALANSAG OMEGA nationwide.

PMGEN ROBERT AA MORICO II, the Director of CIDG stated that from May 21 to 23, 2026, the CIDG conducted law enforcement operations- implementation of search warrants and buy-bust operation against violation of Republic Act No. 10591 (Comprehensive Fi****ms and Am******on Regulation Act) that resulted in the arrest of 20 individuals and confiscation of 28 loose fi****ms- including 3 light weapons and 25 small arms; and 4 grenades.

Noteworthy is the search warrant implementation of the CIDG Lapu-Lapu City Field Unit on May 23, 2026 from 8:37 AM to 10:45 AM in Brgy. Butong, Ronda, Cebu that yields three unlicensed fi****ms at once— M1 carbine r***e, caliber 22 magnum r***e, and caliber 38 pistol; magazines; and assorted live am******on. During the operation, the team also discovered and recovered one heat-sealed plastic sachet containing white powdered substance suspected to be illegal drugs. The subject of the warrant who is allegedly into gunrunning activities was arrested.

The CIDG leadership lauds all the Regional Chiefs, Provincial Officers, District and City Chiefs who took part in the 72 hours OPLAN PAGLALANSAG OMEGA that yields 28 loose fi****ms, 4 grenades and 20 suspects.
Special commendation goes to PCOL Arbel C Mercullo, the Regional Chief of CIDG Regional Field Unit 7, and to CIDG Lapu-Lapu City Field Unit led by PMAJ Emmanuel T Rabaya for the successful confiscation three unlicensed fi****ms — M1 carbine r***e, caliber 22 magnum r***e, and caliber 38 pistol, all at once, and arrest of alleged gunrunner.

The confiscation and removal from the circulation and use of these instrumentalities of killing and violence significantly prevented crimes, contract-killing and gun-for-hire activities. It underscores the CIDG’s unyielding fight against loose fi****ms.

The CIDG assures the public that the Group is steadfast in enforcing the laws and relentless in its nationwide campaign to eliminate loose fi****ms, track down unregistered weapons and dismantle criminal networks. The CIDG is dauntless, the CIDG means business.
