A total of 440 eligible municipal fisherfolk from the municipalities of Pulupandan, Valladolid, San Enrique, and Pontevedra received direct financial assistance (β‚±2,325.00) under the Presidential Assistance for Farmers and Fisherfolk (PAFF) Program during a distribution activity held on May 29.

The activity was facilitated by the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) Provincial Fishery Office of Negros Occidental, in coordination with the BFAR Negros Island Region (NIR), BFAR Region 6, and the respective Municipal Agriculture Offices (MAOs) of the participating local government units.

The PAFF Program is a national government initiative that provides immediate and unconditional financial support to farmers and fisherfolk affected by increasing production and operational costs. For municipal fisherfolk, the assistance serves as a timely intervention to help offset rising fuel expenses and sustain their fishing operations, thereby contributing to local food production and livelihood security.

All beneficiaries underwent validation through the National Program for Municipal Fishing Vessels and Gears Registration (BoatR) and the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) to ensure that assistance reaches legitimate and active fisherfolk in the coastal communities.

The successful implementation of the program highlights the strong collaboration among national government agencies, local government units, and fisheries stakeholders in supporting the welfare of fisherfolk and strengthening the country's fisheries sector.

The distribution in Central Negros Occidental marks only the beginning of the province-wide rollout of the PAFF Program. Additional distribution activities are scheduled throughout the month of June in other municipalities across Negros Occidental, ensuring that more qualified fisherfolk will receive much-needed assistance and support from the national government.

Through initiatives such as PAFF, the government continues to recognize the vital role of fisherfolk in ensuring food security while providing much-needed support to improve their resilience and quality of life.
