The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) joins the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the entire Filipino nation in mourning the loss of Private First Class John Rey Brasil of the 79th Infantry Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, Philippine Army.
PFC Brasil made the ultimate sacrifice on June 1, 2026, during an encounter with communist terrorist rebels in Barangay Tamlang, Escalante City, Negros Occidental. In confronting the remnants of the North Negros Front, he exemplified the highest ideals of military service - selflessness, bravery, and unwavering commitment to duty.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, friends, and fellow soldiers. No words can fully ease the pain of such a loss, but we hope they find comfort in knowing that he lived a life of courage, purpose, and service to others.
PFC Brasil stood as a steadfast defender of peace, placing himself between the vulnerable communities and those who sought to sow fear, violence, and instability. His sacrifice was made in pursuit of a peaceful Negros Occidental, where future generations may live free from the shadow of armed conflict.
His dedication to peace also extended beyond military service. As an advocate of the Youth for Peace Movement - Northern Negros Chapter, he devoted his time to inspiring young Filipinos to embrace patriotism, responsible citizenship, and community involvement. Through his words and example, he helped shape young minds and encouraged them to become partners in nation-building.
To his family, we offer our profound gratitude. The sacrifice borne by your son and by your family in the service of the nation can never be fully repaid. The Filipino people remain forever indebted to his courage and dedication.
Though his life was cut short, his legacy endures โ in the communities he helped protect, in the youth he inspired, and in the nation he faithfully served.
May the Almighty grant comfort to his loved ones during this difficult time, and may the memory of his noble service continue to inspire all Filipinos to work for lasting peace and unity.
We salute you, PFC John Rey Brasil.
Your courage in battle, your commitment to peace, and your devotion to the Filipino people will never be forgotten.
You have completed your mission with honor. Your nation remembers. Your people are grateful. Your legacy lives on.
