Empowering Samal Farmers: DA-BSWM Delivers Small-Scale Composting Facilities for Sustainable Agriculture.
The Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), through the Composting Production Implementation Team (CPIT) and in coordination with the DA Regional Field Offices (RFOs), is implementing the "Establishment of Small-Scale Composting Facility (SSCF)" project. This initiative is funded under the National Organic Agriculture Program (NOAP) for CY 2025.
Two associations from the Island Garden City of Samal were identified as beneficiaries: the Bandera Samal Kaagapay Tagay Association and the Barangay Licup Farmers Association. Each technology package includes one shredding machine, two vermicompost tea brewers, and 15 kg of African Night Crawlers with additional inoculants.
These interventions are vital to sustaining the associations' vegetable production and establishing organic fertilizer production as an income-generating venture. Mr. Jeferson Aquino, Agriculturist I and the City Agriculture Office’s Organic Agriculture Focal Person, supervises the distribution and will monitor the project's implementation to ensure long-term sustainability.
