As early as 1901, barangay Buluang was already in existence and was believed to be the center of all religious, political, social and civic activities of the now adjoining barangays. This barangay was formerly comprised by the barangays of Caranday, Cristo Rey, Lourdes, Antipolo, La Medalla and Salvacion, but because of proximity and far distance of their houses from their mother barangay especially during barangay fiesta, processions, political rallies and other merry-making activities, they found it tiresome and time consuming to go to and fro in their respective abodes. Thus, the inhabitants of their respective sitios decided to create and establish their own barangay, elected their own leader, constructed their own chapel, school, etc… and lived independently governed by their own leader. According to some records about the name of the barangay, how it was originated, the folks say that during the ancient time the place where the barangay is presently located was famous known for a medicinal tree abundantly growing along its fertile land. The adjacent barangays or sitios then, also knew about this place as the place of medicinal tree, thus natives or their residents flocks into this place to look for the pain relievers they called “Buluang”. This growing tree relieves abdominal pain, common cold, coughs, and also served as purgatives. Because of this, people who learn about the medicinal tree frequently called the place where it is located as “Buluang”. The name Buluang became known throughout the municipality and thus when the barangay was formally recognaized by the virtue of Republic Act 3590, Buluang was the name registered. The barangay residents of Buluang have also their own Patron Saint in the name of “San Antonio de Padua” whom they honor and celebrate its festivities every June 14 of the year.
