"Victims may not be able to personally report crime or emergency incidents since their device was allegedly stolen, however, if there were concerned bikers around with them (in relation to our advise to travel by group) who are members of this chat group, they could have quickly reported it and we could have received it within minutes to be followed by immediate confirmation of the report and hot pursuit operation upon validation..
Please note that we do not instantly respond to alleged reports posted on media without proper validation since anyone can fabricate report for whatever purpose it may serve them. Other reports were also found to be exaggerated especially if reported by people who just heard the story..
What we can do to keep the Biker’s in Antipolo Safe?
FOR THE PNP AND LGU
1) The PNP, Barangay and Force multipliers to jointly continue and intensify visibility and patrolling along Bike routes
2) Encourage all Bikers traversing Antipolo City routes to join the Antipolo City Biker’s Watch for bayanihan quick reporting system.
3) Intensify intelligence efforts to identify criminals involved in this modus exploiting vulnerabilities of the bikers. This however may be difficult if the criminals involved are not from Antipolo City and are just passers by who happened to see opportunity to take advantage their victims.
FOR THE BIKERS COMMUNITY
4) Join the Antipolo City Bikers’ Watch FB Page and Chatgroup.
5) Travel by groups and add them to our FB Page and Chatgroup. If you are biking alone, ride along with other groups with the same pacing.
6) Do not bring or brandish expensive phones and gadgets. Criminals are spotting for Bikers with expensive belongings.
7) Stop and rest on safe areas, preferably on Police Outposts and establishments where criminals cannot find any opportunity to take advantage of the bikers. Never stop or park on dark and remote areas where you will find yourself helpless in times of emergency. It is unfortunate that the PNP and LGU cannot always guard all of these places given the challenges at hand and criminals strike where there are no Police around.
8. Plan your bike ride. Determine beforehand what routes to travel, where to stopover, where are the nearest Police outposts and emergency facilities along your routes, and make sure that you travel by groups and all of you are members of our FB Page and chatgroup if you will be traveling in Antipolo City.
9) Bringing of gadgets other belongings is a must for us to document and record our adventures and to call for help in case of emergency. However, we should keep our cellphones, wallets secured. If we have to put it in our back jersey pockets, put it in the right most side and keep on the right most part of the road so that the snatchers cannot overtake on the right side, thus keeping our important belonging safe.
10) Take advantage of location service technology. Activate find device features so that you can be traced if needed (sensitive to privacy issues) and the phones or other devices can be easily tracked if lost or stolen. The Antipolo City Police Station was able to track and recover stolen cellphones, laptop, car, and motorcycles because the stolen items have activated gps devices.
